Accounts of the stewards at WBA

by STAR Liaison » 26 Feb 2010 15:28

This reminds me of the Wolves game and STAR's dossier of accounts was very helpful in getting the complaints to be taken seriously. So would anyone who was at the game like to send an eyewitness account to info@star-reading,org we can compile a dossier to send to the FA for their investigation.

Please give you name on your account so that it cannot be dismissed as anonymous and impossible to sustantiate. Thanks

Apparently it is all ok because the observer from West Midlands Police was satisfied with what he saw. Well, I certainly wasn't bloody satisfied.

Thats the typical responce from clubs in the Midlands area.. It reminds me of when I was lucky enough to have a coin stick in my head during a playoff semi. The responce I got from police and stewards that day was " If you dont like it oxf*rd off home."

Sorry to say it but sending any "dossier of accounts" didnt get anyone to take what happend seriously at Wolves and it wont with West Brom. Those clubs have a long history of sweeping things under the carpet.

It actually did, though. Wolverhampton City Council (the licensing authority for Molineux) changed the terms of the club's safety license so that Wolves had to increase the number of stewards in the Steve Bull stand (upper and lower) and also now have strict restrictions on how they sell seats in the upper tier.

All very positive stuff, but does it really make any difference to the level of 'abuse' the visiting fans suffer?

I hope it does, but I'm cynical that it probably hasn't made a jot of difference unfortunately.

Big Clive was asking for video footage from mobiles on Saturday, bloke behind me captured the entire thing.

If anyone else has video footage on their mobiles I suggest you contact STAR or Big Clive.

Unfortunately they still put the away fans below the Home fans.. I would have thought that this should have been changed. There has been several re-occurrences of fans trowing stuff down on the away fans I would have thought that would have been the main thing that should have been changed. It doesn't matter how many stewards they have on duty if the stewards don't do anything to stop it

But if everyone is happy to just "expect and accept" nothing will ever change.

Things don't change immediately, admittedly, but what usually happens is that a weight of evidence builds up until there's an unanswerable case and then big change does happens.

But the "expect and accept" attitude that many supporters has means that all the little indignities and inequalities just go unreported and unremarked on, and it's a self-fulfilling prophesy, because then nothing ever does change.

It's all part of football though - a bottle of piss to the head once every three seasons or so reminds you that you're alive.

I agree in principle Dirk, just think that the very small steps being made are/were the 'nothing will be achieved' that you were denying.

Essentially all the good efforts and 'successes' you say were acheived have had pretty much zero effect. A shame, but until something is really done about it they're just paying lip service to the complaints.

I certainly did not accept what happened to me at Wolves .. I wrote several letters to both clubs the FA and football league. The response I got from Wolves was from their saftey officer saying that they were reviewing their CCTV footage. Then i go the response that they did not see anything. I got an automated response from the FA . Believe it or not I am still awaiting a response from Reading FC. Only two of the e-mails that I sent out got a response that I saw as being acceptable 1 form STAR and another from 107 fm .

I would like to say thanks to STAR for the response and good luck on this occasion I hope some answers are given but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Is there something about the folk in the midlands that makes them particularly sore losers?

I've never come across any set of fans as immature and bitter as Wolves fans and now West Brom are contenders. i don't know what the fans are like but the club certainly.

Is this REALLY a good idea to send in Camera Phone footage?

Call me synical, Ground Regulations say you aren't supposed to take coverage and use it for anything other than personal use. Add your name to it as well - thanks - you'll be getting a match banning order through the Royal Mail for breaking ground regulations sooner than you can say 'Rasiak'.

Dirk Gently - please can you confirm there will be an amesty against anyone submitting footage before anyone falls foul of this with the club??? :?:

I'm sure information would be collated and passed on anonymously, so no-one could be identified from it. And I can't see any circumstance where any acyion could/would be taken against anyone sublitting such footage.

It's a technical breach of ground regulations, but only West Brom's - and there are no copyright issues involved either as the match was over.

I actually can't believe this response from West Brom. Shows what a joke of a football club they are, it was clear for all to see that the stewards shouldn't have been on the pitch or stop the players celebrating in front of the traveling fans.
