ah but by cancelling yesterday the club would probably not had to pay the hotel costs whereas if they cancelled after that they would be liable for the full cost of the rooms. 8)

Svlad Cjelli tbh, can't be bothered to spend the time digging out the statistics to respond to that - it would be massively off-topic and it would dignify the response.

Suffice to say that I'm happy for andrew1957 to stay on his flat earth with his fingers in his ears going "la, la, la."

I'm not. Probably because I'm half his age, assuming he's picked his birth year for a user name (a trait shared by the very young and very old, oddly).

I see it as this - scientists who have nothing to gain (and indeed everything to lose) from falsification tend to agree that the climate is changing. Now - even if it's only possible that we can change this by changing our habits, as opposed to definite, why are you happy to play with my future by denying man's effect on the world? Why should I, still in my not-inconsiderable prime, have to suffer because the world's 50-somethings want to continue to consume? Cretin is too soft, I'd say.

What the cock's a yoghurt knitter, anyway?

So I'm at least partially on topic, I'll say that the snow is just starting to enter that cycle of turning to mush in the day, before freezing into sheets of death at night. I'm on the other side of the Pennines, but presumably it's the same over there.

Been on the phone for the past hour trying to get some refunds sorted on my advanced train tickets as our trains for tomorrow have actually now been cancelled. Got to call them at 9am tomorrow.

NR_Royal The game could and should have gone ahead. The major roads are all clear now, just the pavements that are covered. The pitch and stadium will be fine, so they really should have left the decision to today at the earliest...

Have to think there may be some truth in that - the thaw today and tonight was always forecast.

Local media suggesting game called off early because they hadn't been able to train, and were resting players for the Barnsley game...

Speed - "We've not been able to train properly and, in this instance, I don't think things would have evened themselves out"

Meaning, I presume, he realises Reading have all-weather facilities (well done Sir John)

however, at this point of the season the rest from training is probably ayt least as beneficial as actual training

1) If you're going to the Daily Mail for your science news, you deserve to be laughed out of town.

2) One of the speculated effects of climate change is that it might herald a new ice-age, you know.

Global warming is a term used by the uninitiated to refer to the effects of greenhouse gases that are greatly more complex than only rising temperatures, and so should better be called climate change.

Is it??

There was me thinking that global warming was the theory postulated in 1988 to describe the warming of the earth's surface due to the effects of man, whilst climate change is the actual changing of climate through all sources, not just man.

The switch to using the words climate change rather than global warming is to counter the impression given that its all about making the Planet hotter; by doing so, it allows those who want to, to state that ANY change of climate is down solely to man's influence. So hotter than "average" Summers, wetter than "average" Autumns, or, as in this case, colder earlier than "average" Winters are all the result of man.

maybe then we can talk about football on the team board?

You are right. Those proclaiming man made global warming want it every way. If we have a hot spell it is our fault - as is a cold spell - or even a storm. Interestingly in the last 20 years there has been global warming on Mars, Jupiter and Pluto as well and I am mystified as to how we managed to achieve that with our use of fossil fuels. The increase in temperatures between 1970 and 2004 (at which point we re-entered a cold cycle) were undoubtedly caused by a solar maximum and the colder temperatures are now as a result of a solar minimum. Again this is all verifiable for anyone who wants to do research. These are natural cycles that affect the whole Solar System.

Apart from that, the truth is no one knows whether man is having an effect or not. The time scales are too short to know one way or another. Climatologists have been caught red handed manipulating the data and our taxes continually go up - and yet world Governments do nothing to actually stop the use of fossil fuels.

This is not to say I think we should do nothing. There is a great deal of evidence available to anyone who wants to do research that clean energy options are being suppressed by the oil cartel as they would be out of business if they were developed. I suggest for anyone who wants to look at clean energy that they research Nicola Tesla - the father of a great deal of modern science - whose experiments indicated nearly a hundred years ago that there is unlimited clean electrical energy all around us that could solve all mankind's needs. Has this technology been suppressed?

I'm not going to spend any more time on this topic. If there's one thing over the years it's that people who are stupid enough and emotionally immature to deny self-evident truths like the Holocaust and Climate Change and who believe that there's a God in the Sky and that there's Life After Death will stay in their corner no matter what is said or what evidence exists or doesn't exist.

Go ahead, have the last word. There nothing I or anyone else can do.

Andrew, as you are link dumping rather than listening what Science Journalists have to say, who can barely understand what is coming out of science circles why not have read of what actual scientists have to say.

+1

What a laugh that someone can attack the opponents with the line "anyone who wants to do the research" while denying what 99% of climatologists declare.

How many other clubs have a fans' website where a topic on postponing a game can turn into an argument about global warmimg and climate change??!! Truly unique

Maybe start a new game where we have to morph the argument 49 times
in a 200 page thread, until, by careless accident, it comes back to football
