That was an extremely good win against dangerous opponents. I watched on line and the performance was decent with the same strengths and weaknesses in our game as most weeks. Today though Adam pulled off some great saves and Shane got the rewards his all round play deserved. On such fine margins results are determined.

We looked pretty solid at the back and, except for an individual marking error from Griffin for the goal, we made the opposition work hard for the chances they created. In particular Pearce continued his recent good form. We were hard working and competitive in midfield but gave the ball away on occasions. Leigertwood had a good game and broke up a lot of Derby's attacks. He looks to be getting fitter every week too. McAnuff carried the ball better than in some recent matches but Jimmy still doesn't look right. Long's general play made him the best of our strikers by some distance even disregarding the goals. Hunt and Church were generally both poor I thought and both also missed good chances.

All in all this one could have gone either way but I think we were owed one after one or two of the matches recently.

On the subject of Leigertwood, he seems to have a Huddlestone-esque right foot.

Would like to see him shoot at goal more regularly.

Snowball Open play goal.

who scored it?

Who scored their first ever league goal against Derby? Who scored their second ever league goal against Derby? Who seems to score a lot of goals against Derby?

If only he could score against the other teams in the league as regularly as he does against Derby he would be worthy of the praise you shower him with every day of your life.

Shane Long's goals scored when starting games .....

Teamname CountOfOpponentsID
Derby County 4
Norwich City 3
Burnley 2
Plymouth Argyle 2
Charlton Athletic 2
Aston Villa 2
Manchester City 1
Barnsley 1
Birmingham City 1
Crystal Palace 1
Liverpool 1
Wigan Athletic 1
Peterborough United 1
Queens Park Rangers 1
Sheffield United 1
Southampton 1
Doncaster Rovers 1

... and those goals against temas when coming on a s a sub ...

Teamname CountOfOpponentsID
Derby County 3
Sheffield Wednesday 1
Portsmouth 1
Norwich City 1
Newcastle United 1
Liverpool 1
Burnley 1

70 league starts and 79 league subs apps, 29 goals in total.

so summary: 70 starts - 26 goals, 79 subs - 9 goals. - er, that doesn't add up to 29 total strap? Where am I / you going wrong?

Fascinated as to why we would want to ignore Shane's goals
against Liverpool, Villa, Birmingham, Burnley etc in cups.

Great goals in great games

If he had racked up cup goals v Burton say (like Gylfi did but nobody ever says take the goal out, or remove Gylfi's goal v Burnley, or the one v WBA) then there might be a point.

But his cup goals have come against top sides putting out serious teams

I've had a level playing field, put in Rasiak's cup goal, Gyflfi's FOUR cup goals, two goals for Mills v Northampton etc, so why are 6 goals against good ops, spread over 6 seasons suddenly disallowed? Just to try to make Shane look worse?

S'easy - goals from starts and subs were for League, Play-offs , FAC and LC games.

For some reason my post went out before I'd finished typing ...

70 league starts and 79 league subs apps, 29 goals in total.
2 play-off starts
10 FAC starts plus 3 subs, 5 goals in total
6 LC starts plus 1 sub, 1 goals in total.

Hopefully that totals 88 starts 83 subs, 35 goals. Apologies Ian, that's what happens when you have bunches of bananas for fingers.

The Derby chat were bemoaning the fact they didn't have a striker like Long
and a keeper like Feds

Tbf you don't need to follow him around the board he's everywhere sometimes making 5 or 6 posts in a row. He's not exactly making it easy for himself.

Yes it is a forum so why are you complaining about supposed "idiots following him around"?

If they didn't respond to him he wouldn't need to make so many posts.

Scored some screamers in his time and looks solid defensively. Don't have a clue why anyone wrote him off, seems exactly the sort of player we need in the middle.

agreed- since hes arrived hes had one bad game where he was understandably leggy-
then one average game- where he looked prettty decent
then one very good game where he looked back to fitness, and given us some steel in the middle- good purchase imo

look forward to seeing his good game. Not saying he's a bad player, just think we needed something totally different. then again unbeaten since he started conceeding only one goal... can't argue with that, even if he had very little to do with itat in the first match IMO.
