Once it has been done this time it will be the same in the future I guess, as we know football is in a real financial struggle, it would be fantastic if people were able to fully back the club here. I just cannot see it happening due to the way it has been handled by those that made the decision, as far as the top man was concerned it is the same as before, but they were going on sale earlier.

Next time, I would suggest that there is a bigger discount on the price of the ST for the earlier you renew it, but with you being able to renew and keep your current seat at beginning of June. That way, everyone should be happy - if people can't afford to renew earlier, they miss the "early bird discount", but still get a reasonably priced ST seat and get to keep their seat anyway.
How it was not possible to do this in the first place, I really don't know.

PLUS, if the club had bothered to do their research properly, they'd notice that most of these other clubs to which they are referring, have put their STs on sale MUCH earlier than we are - but, as I say, with a much bigger discount on the ST price.

What is needed now is another 6 straight wins and a top 6 finish, followed by promotion!!

I would bet on a mad rush if the play-offs are secured on the day of Sheff U at home, TBF would be no more than the ST holders that have stuck with the club deserve.

I wonder if the prices might change should we go up? If not I shall be down there and signing up at that price for Prem footy.

brendywendy can anyone tell me what, in this article about ST renewals on the club website http://www.readingfc.co.uk/page/SeasonTickets/0,,10306,00.html is worthy of calling it a fiasco/rip off?

im just not sure whats got you all so riled?

please continue to explain, preferably for another 80 pages

If you wish to be sure of keeping your seat, you are compelled to renew by 28th April, before the end of this season and around 3 months before you can first use your purchase.

Whilst it is true that each season ticket holder can decide whether to leave it until later and risk having to get a different seat, this choice is compromised if you sit with friends or relatives as, unless you all renew by 28th April, you cannot be sure you will be able to sit together.

Many feel that this cut off date is excessively early as it is many weeks earlier than in other seasons. The annoyance at this decision has been exacerbated for many by the patronising nonsense the club has spouted when justifying it.

In a nutshell.

thatk you for your concise summary. thats helped me understand a bit.but.....
surely if you renewed after that date, and your seats had already gone, youd just all renew in a different spot?

Yeah, but that's a big risk of not being able to get seats in the same place or with the same people - and for people who came along in the summer of 1998 and chose their seats it's a big emotional wrench to think of losing them.

surely its not a big risk.(unless we get promoted) therell be whole rows of seats all over the stadium ready for every group of families/friends that wamnt them
especially if as many who say they wont renew on here actually dont.

plus can you really get emotionally attached to a small flat piece of plastic?

and is all of that enough to warrant being called a fiasco?

Yes, you could do that but, firstly, they are likely to be inferior seats to the originals, secondly, people have an emotional attachment to their seats (as per dirk) and thirdly, if I could be bothered to make a stand*, i'd have to impose my position on 4 others taking them away from their beloved seat or have to sit on my own.

*I can't

fair play

i guess JM would argue that all the seats are pretty much the same, but i get your point.
my ire has been eased

I am slowly coming round to your point of view Brenders, and I still think the club should do things to ST areas, like close up the odd spare seat by moving folk along to fill the gaps.

And ban concessions in Y25 and Y26, should be for hardcore hoolies only.

There may be rows available - but if you have a "prime" seat/seats all it takes is one new person to take a fancy to that seat and it's gone, so you've lost 12 years of holding onto the same seat.

Yes, you can get emotionally attached - definitely, if you've been there long enough. Not to mention being m8s with the people around you.

"Fiasco" isn't my word - that's a standard "kneejerk" word that'll be attached by some to anything the club does. I don't think this is that dramatic a deal - just another pointless obstacle that's placed in the way of trying to be a football supporter.

Now settling out of court over the shirt thing - that really is a fiasco!

There's a list of Premier League ST prices in the mirror today, the cheapest adult seats are.

Arsenal: £893
Liverpool: £680
Tottenham: £650
West Ham: £585
Chelsea: £550
Wolves: £522-
Manchester United: £513
Everton: £443
Manchester City: £420
West Brom: £399
Stoke: £399
Sunderland: £395
Blackpool: £382
Bolton: £369
Fulham: £369
Birmingham: £360
Aston Villa: £350
Newcastle: £330
Wigan: £250
Blackburn: £224

In most cases renewals are even cheaper, eg Fulham is £329. Our equivalent price of £395 doesn't look such good value.

Yeah, but these newspaper tables showing “cheapest seats” are almost always flawed. Many PL clubs have a handful of cheap seats (often reduced visibility ones, behind pillars etc) so that they can quote the low prices when journalists ask them.

In reality the vast majority of PL seats are far more expensive than those figures suggest.

Good post SS, thing is I have always been in favour of the better seats costing more, but when you look at SL and TL in the Riverside there is a difference of £90, and that could and would be just across the walkway in many cases, is that view worth more/less?

The trouble with any ground is once you have built it it is barely worth making the alterations to make the price differences value, though I would say that a seat on the half way line is better value at the Madstad than one in the first row near a corner flag.

Reading have always tried to hold values, so much so that the Upper West is not much dearer than the rest of the ground.
