Would have thought a step too far if we go up

But even if we are Championship, we will have Manset, Williams both "stepping up".

This guy would be the third with Hunt-Church the main men?

Saw this guy play quite a few times when he was at Rochdale. A great little player, reminded me quite a lot of Jamie Cureton. Great positional sense and knows where the goal is. If we do go up then the step-up would be too much, but I think he'd do well in the Championship, providing he has the right strike partner. I'd argue Long would suit him perfectly but if we're still in the Championship then there's little chance Long would be with us anyway. Couldn't see him complimenting Noel Hunt that well but Manset would be interesting - the year I watched Rochdale Le Fondre formed a good partnership with a player called Rene Howe who had similar attributes to Manset (although wasn't as good). Basically, I love the Cureton/Le Fondre style of player and would love to see him here, but if Long goes it wouldn't completely plug the gaping hole he'll leave.

Would like to see us go for this guy .. he knows where the goal is and I believe he could easily make the step up .. a replacement for Noel Hunt maybe ?

Yes please. Even if we go up too. He can develop readyv for relegation and another promotion push.

With 54 goals in 2 seasons? Surely he's a young player that deserves a chance at Championship level.

He's as natural a goalscorer as you'll find, he just needs a shot at the Championship, and someone will give it to him and most likely be quids in for it. So many here are quick to dismiss players we're linked to or bring in, and time and time again you're proved wrong. Quite how anyone can judge from their armchair that this kid is 'over-rated' I don't know, let alone "no thanks." His record in front of goal speaks for itself, he has age on his side and can be nurtured, and what better place to develop than Reading?

How often do we see players banging in goals at the lower leagues and never make it? Andy Morrell has a class above and never managed it. I'd love to take a wager that he would FLOP in this league.

Think Jamie Cureton with even less work rate.

Seen him play against the Gulls and other than missing a penalty, I can barely remember him touching the ball.

burnley, sheffield utd and leeds all interested according to a rotherham buddy of mine who is desperate for them to hold onto le fondre. he thinks he'll go for around 1.5m which prices us out of any deal unless they took something like 800k up front with the rest on promotion, goals scored etc.

Worth a signing I think, I'd rather him than Harewood!

RUMOUR - Adam Le Fondre

by tomrfcurz » 15 Aug 2011 15:21

Apparently there's rumours coming out of Rotherham that we've been watching him for a good while and have decided to now bid an up front fee of £300,000 with another possible £100,000 in add ons. Not sure of how much they value him but from the little bits I've seen he looks a very good striker, albeit in the lower league of course. I've heard Sheff Wed had a bid rejected but I'm not sure how much that was. I'm sure Le Fondre himself would favour a move to the Championship though. Thoughts on him?
