Everyone note the involvement of the fans/STAR somewhere in that process.

Also isn't it funny that about month or so after we actually get a chance to buy the new strip that the club are already looking at the next year's strip...

Barry the bird boggler Anyone know when the club will actually confirm what dreadful design they're going to foist on us next season?

In October, Puma pass the club a range of designs that they have on their account which are also used by other clubs. The club then weed out designs that are impractical eg those that aren’t suitable for hooped shirts, hoops that are at least 18mm high to fit the sponsor’s name on. They also want a contrast with last year’s design.

The playing department have an input at this stage as do the board in fine tuning the design e.g. do they want white shorts? Are they able to read the numbers on the back? (They couldn’t one year).

The chairman also likes to approve the final design.

This all has to be finalised – proof-approved – 16-20 weeks before the actual launch date which is always early July.

How the feck did the club choose the kit for this season just gone then? Was it the Christmas party the night before and they were all pissed. Saw a bloke wearing the shirt in town yesterday. Absolutely orrible. Looks cheap and nasty.

How can they spend the best part of year choosing a kit and come up with that bollox!

Quite liked that away one brendy. Stood out for sure. And many clubs followed suit with their away kits being that colour.

At least if you are a builder or work on the roads, you can head into Stamford Bridge without changing out of your working clothes.

At least the 2010/11 effort was miles better than the sailor boy abortion of the previous season.

the annoying thing is that would have been a really good kit with the Puma "trademark" design added to it.

I'd love to get kit designers in a room, and use a cricket bat to bang it into their heads that the fancy additions that they think look so good are often the sole reason that people hate a kit.

Why damage a perfectly good cricket bat? Sadly, the clubs all know that there is good money to be made from fans wanting to buy the replica kit. If there were no changes then that would be a source of revenue that would be lost. I agree with your sentiments. If there is to be a new kit every season then make sure that the options are sensible. Have you seen some of the abhorrations that will be on show next season?

What does not help is that we are one of a very small number of clubs that wear hoops and therein lies a big problem for us.

Not really. You can change a design without having to add some crap "trademark" design to it, that ruins it.

It's not as if the "sailor" shirt was identical to the prior year's kit if they hadn't put the crap bit on. Nor would this year's be the same if they hadn't gone for the scratch marks in the hoops.

roadrunner I don't ask for too much, just please give us a home shirt with hoops that go all the way around and no back panel.

If I could be a little greedy I'd love a return to white shorts and white socks.

PS. This would be fecking amazing:

Nike > Puma

so it was you that stole that off my washing line........... snowdropper

what about a variation on a theme...cough

seriously tho' I do hope they keep the black away kit at least, it's a good looking top & it's been kinda lucky for us as well

While I agree that Nike is so much better than Puma, I wouldn't want to be copying anything the Froggies do. Those hoops are far too thin. Almost like one of those shirts that those gay sailors in those perfume ads wear.
