Wrong with it? Not a lot really, I just happen to think it's more respectful and better manners to do as you're asked when it's a communal act of remembrence or grief.

As we're allowed to deal with loss on an idividual basis I will be having a great big w@nk before the game tonight, that normally cheers me right up and the time limit will no doubt enhance my enjoyment

+ 1. Continuous coverage of the Leveson Inquiry plays like a twisted parody of itself as producers and viewers revel in the levels of depravity that the printed media plummed to in the search for that very same depravity.

Whatever happened to quiet dignified mourning?

Well quite - like a minute's silence you mean?

Speed was too good a player to play for Reading or Peterborough. But it is safe to say that he wasn’t an all time great in the context of the game of football. What would happen if the Afan Lido manager topped himself. Would there be a minute of applause at Reading vs Peterborough then? Or is there some sort of tragedy/celebrity matrix which decrees which lives will be commemorated with silence or applause on a national scale?

He was the current Manager of Wales - *slightly* more high profile than the manager of Afan Lido I would hazard a guess....

And, I'm glad to see that you finally agree that Philip was to blame for our Princess of Hearts' death.

Great post and I agree with all of it. I would say however that the statement "Guess what - it's none of your business and it shouldn't be discussed outside of a court room" is a little misleading as courtrooms are by definition open to the public and I believe there's currently a bill being planned/discussed to talk about implementing the US-style TV broadcasting of court cases. Leveson is being streamed live on BBC website amongst others but that's more a case that is in the interest of the public than something like Murray-Jackson. Of course, this does play back into your hands as it'll only increase the public nature of seemingly private matters. Something like the Tabak trial being broadcast live would have been interesting, given the amount of information that was only released after the trial finished WRT pictures on his laptop etc. Quite the vicious circle, as the public demands more knowledge and the internet only increases this with the availability of services like Twitter, as you say.

Man Friday
swansea jack You really are an idiot.

Maybe, maybe not. But she's completely right. I assume you were part of the 20% that clapped?

Doesn't matter whether it was 20% (it wasn't ftr) or 100%. They were paying their respects along with the Villa fans and the Villa bench.

I apologise to Royal Lady, perveyor of all things mute...you must love it at the MadStad as there seems to be 90 mins of silence at most games.

Bit Ironic that we've been asked to clap a bloke who killed himself isnt it?

Quite happy to clap when I approve of something. I won't be clapping but will honour his passing in silence even though we have been asked to clap by the club.

Only if he'd applauded himself to death, which I don't believe was the case

No I doubt he did. The irony is that you would not normally clap some one who has killed themselves.

Clapping is the same logic as having a party instead of a wake.

Celebrate what they gave rather than focus what we've lost.

Aren't we applauding what he gave to the football, rather than the fact he killed himself?

A minutes silence to remember him, a minutes applause in recognition to what he gave to football.
