He's seems far too quiet/focused on this own game to be a captain

Possibly but he is one of them who isn't a massive twonk.

I would be disappointed if Harte was given it either to be honest.

Probably Gerrard and/or Parker for me and then let the new manager pick his long term appointment when he rebuilds the side after the Euro's.

Parker is going to be a main feature of the side in the summer and he seems to have the righe character.

Gerrard is the obvious senior pro in the squad (assuming he stays fit of course) and will be the one who's best placed to lead the squad as captain because of his experience. He may get the gig as the 'statesman' but with Parker donning the armband on the pitch as and when Gerrard isn't selected. A bit like Ingimarrson being club captain for us whilst Mills was the vice-captain who actually led on the pitch.

Harts a possibility as he also seems to be the right kind of character, although perhaps a bit too much 'one of the lads' for Capello.

He's Irish, and I doubt he would get in the team ahead of Ashley Cole anyway.

Mr Angry It will need to be someone who is guaranteed a starting place and who captains his own club side....

Such as....Gerrard?

Can't be Gerrard - he battered that bloke in a bar in Southport don't forget.

What about Richards? Has captained city a few times this season and they're joint top.

Oh wait, I forgot he's not good enough for England

I know...my answer was a bit sarky, because I can't think of anyone else who fits the description above.

Didn't seem to be the case at West Ham.

Maybe he doesn't feel established enough at Spurs or with England to be quite so vocal. Seems to be one to pipe up on the pitch when needs to even if not a visable ranter and raver.

True but being England captain is more than being a manager on the pitch - its more a media thing, being the spokesperson for the squad - being someone the players can go to with any issue they wish to address the management with etc

He apparently* won't do what Capello has asked him to do at right back.

I think he's been the outstanding right back in the Premier League this season so really should be in the squad, but if the manager doesn't think he can trust him to do what he wants him to do (because he hasn't taken onboard his instructions in the past) then I can understand why he's not picking him.

He'd be my right back without a doubt though.

* according to what Capello has told the press pack.

Hart would be the worst choice - he even looks like Terry, so he's bound to be a wrong'un sooner rather than later.

Agreed. That's why I'd give it to Gerrard personally (with Parker as his vice-Captain and doing the job on the pitch if Gerrard doesn't play).

As long as it's not Gareth Barry.
