lowerwestjnr Would personally like it to be Ashley Cole, most consistent performer over the last 5 years for England, I don't really understand why most people dislike him.

:? this is a trick question, isn't it

Terry hasn't performed badly for England either, but his personal life has lost it for him

Gerrard might not even get near the team.

Cole is a dick, but he's still a great player and the worst he's done is cheat on his missus and stuffed a phone up his arse.

manny96 Hart. It doesn't matter. John Terry is the epitome of the failures of English football. We don't need a warrior, we need a footballer who isn't a total bellend.

Or at least who we don't yet know is a total bellend. Let's not put the bar too high.

If we went on morally correct behaviour then there aren't many opitions...in the future maybe we will see the likes of Hart get the role but maybe too early?

Wayne Rooney - about time we had a bit of passion in the team.

manny96 We obsess far too much about who the England captain is or should be, as though that will determine our success or failure. The fact that we have so many senior players who fail to lead on the field is of far bigger concern than who gets to wear an armband.

Totally agree-I have never understood the English fixation in sport with the captaincy.
The funniest one of all was good old slo-mo Beckham who everyone thought was marvellous for scoring a goal at the 12th free-kick attempt V Greece and finally showing people that he could actually run by celebrating it afterwards.

Hoop Blah
TBM He's seems far too quiet/focused on this own game to be a captain

Didn't seem to be the case at West Ham.

Maybe he doesn't feel established enough at Spurs or with England to be quite so vocal. Seems to be one to pipe up on the pitch when needs to even if not a visable ranter and raver.

I caught a bit of Sunday Supplement yesterday and they were doing a segment on the England captaincy.

When talking about Parker one of them said that, whilst at Chelsea, Mourinho had different players do the team talk at different times and he'd said that Parker's was probably the best of the lot.

Although I don't think he's quite the complete player that some of the media make out, I do think he's the best option we have for playing the holding role and so I reckon he's pretty much nailed on for a place in the starting XI as well.

I think Scott Parker would be a good choice. Low risk and I don't recall hearing or reading anything to suggest that he is a bellend whatever one of those is.

You can at least work out John Terry's problem with him can't you?

Given how the media are fawning over him at the moment its only a matter of time before someone suggests Paul Scholes as captain.

Is it out of the question that Beckham will captain the England team at the Euros and the UK Olympic side and possibly appear on Big Brother and Britain Hasn't got talent at the same time?

For Bandini, Wax Jacket and any other Gerrard doubters just thought I'd give you an update on his performance so far against Spurs.

Back in his most effective position behind the front man he's been the most threatening player on the pitch and didn't make a single bad pass in a very good first 45 minutes.

Ideal I saw Warnock on tv the other day, and when asked who he thought should be the next England captain he said Ashley Cole.

I almost crashed my car in disgust when I heard that
