winchester_royal Extended-Phenotype 1. Tabb plays as a holding midfielder.
Far more of a ball player than Ledge. He was a winger when we signed him.
2. Howard was played as a holding midfielder, which was the source of some grief.
He might have been played as a holding midfielder, my point is that he's a completely different kind of player to those that we currently have playing there.
3. We still played 4-2-3-1, so what’s your point?
My point is that those '2' were ball playing defensive midfielders, ala Pirlo (although obviously nowhere near as good), and we'd need to have similar players in there to be as successful if we were to revert back to it.
4. I said Gylfi tore up the championship. Not three numbers separated by hyphens.
Fine, he may have tore up the championship, but the TEAM didn't. The TEAM were champions playing without Gylfi, in a 4-4-2.
5. You have a very odd recollection of Mills, and Gorkss is twice the footballer he was.
Gorkss is twice the defender, but as a footballer? LOL.
6. What is so tactically special about Griffin?
He was very comfortable on the ball. Cummings is not.
7. Aren’t we looking to sign a new LB?
No idea, but if we do it will cost a fair bit of money.
8. Aren’t we looking to sign a new forward?
See previous point.
9. Why couldn’t ALF, Roberts or Hunt work up front alone?
Alf - Small, not particularly quick, no presence in the air. Hunt - Not smart enough in terms of movement, lacks pace. Roberts - Admitted the main reason he came to Reading was because we play 4-4-2.
10. Why change? I reckon Reading + Gylfi > Reading – Gyfli, and the new league requires a new system
Reading + Gylfi =/= play-offs, Reading - Gylfi = Champions. Hmmmm
Look, Tabb and Howard were playing as holding mids. Jem and Legs ARE holding mids, playing as holding mids. I can’t recall any examples of the former being better passers than the latter. In my mind, the latter are the better pairing, and it would seem McD agrees with me, hence them being selected practically every game this season while Pirlo1 and Pirlo2 rot on the bench if they are lucky. If you are saying Gylfi would play better with Tabb and Howard, two players who couldn’t suck a game from McD’s cock, then I think you are mental.
Secondly, irrespective of our 4-4-2 winning the league, in a 4-5-1 the previous season, Gylfi worked. Therefore I see no reason to suggest Gylfi wouldn’t work again, and the few changes in personnel I believe would enhance rather than degrade that.
Happy to be corrected, but in terms of ability I really don’t see enough difference between Gorkss and Mills to validate your point that 4-5-1 is out of reach because Matt Mills is a slightly better passer.
Again, the difference between Griffin and Cummings doesn’t really eliminate an entire formation.
You don’t believe Reading are already on the look out for a LB and striker?
You think comparing this season with the previous one is a fair measure of which system may work best in the Premier League?
