If you must blat us with pages of numbers, can you give us a useful breakdown, like ALF's goal stats when starting matches compared with his goal stats when coming on as substitute?

No it wouldn't. You come out with this guff pretty much every January transfer window and it's always bollocks.

You either have a very select or poor memory. My comments during the January windows of the past have tended to be more about lack of investment than flogging off family silver, as the latter tended to happen during the summer. Anyway, our history is riddled with instances of our best players being sold off to balance the books. So it is you talking bollocks!

Name me one time we've sold a key player in the January window Pre-Anton which is what this discussion is about? And I vividly remember asking you this very same question before when you've made exactly the same baseless comment as above.

I'll give you a clue, the answer is the same as the last time I asked it.

Whereas, coming on as a sub he was 201 minutes for one goal

19 0 Defeat Chelsea
45 0 Defeat Spurs
05 0 Draw Newcastle
11 0 Draw Swansea
17 0 Defeat Liverpool
11 0 Draw Fulham
03 0 Draw QPR

That does somewhat murder the theory that he is a 'super sub'.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... t-End.html

Three hours after Reading came from two goals down to draw with the European champions, their manager Brian McDermott sent me a text declaring that Adam Le Fondre can play international football.

'He could come off the bench for England, no problem,' he said.

Sadly there are too many football snobs out there who would recoil in horror at the thought of a player who turned out for Stockport and Rochdale wearing the Three Lions of England.

Personally I love that Reading scout the lower leagues and pick up players.
Le Fondre scored a hat-trick in a trial game with Manchester United as a youngster and was then told he was too lazy and wouldn’t be taken on at Old Trafford. But he fought back by dropping down to the lower leagues and banged in goals and earned his move.

Both of Le Fondre’s goals against Chelsea were set up by Hope Akpan, the most recent arrival at the Madejski Stadium.

Last month he was playing for Crawley Town in League One, until Reading paid £350,000 to take him to the top flight. McDermott says that’s a bargain.

Le Fondre cost even less - £300,000 - and his goalscoring record is amazing, even in the Premier League. And they say English players are expensive.

There are plenty more players down in the lower leagues who are good enough, if Premier League clubs can be bothered to look for them.

McDermott used to be a scout and says it’s the perfect grounding for a manager. He also says his top scorer could play for England. I can’t disagree.

May have been posted before I added the last three games which do rather distort the stats

Should also be said that Alf's goal-spree has come as we've settled into the pattern
of 4-5-1 trying to keep it to 0-0 for the first hour

17 Games = 5 goals in 912 Minutes = 1 goal every 182 Minutes

then

03 Games = 5 goals in 72 minutes = 1 goal every FOURTEEN minutes

See above, 4 when starting (at better than a goal every other game) (I mean in the Prem)
and six when coming on as a sub

add in cups and it's 6 when starting, six as a sub

What Snowball subsequently posted. Until his recent ridiculous run, he'd scored just one goal coming on as a substitute all season.

Tbf I don’t really care that much brendy, but fwiw ‘super-sub’ means someone who cements a reputation over some time for coming on and scoring important goals. Not really the same imho as doing that over three games. Although to be fair I hadn’t appreciated how many of his goals last season were also from the bench.

i think its a throwaway title that can be applied how and when you like

what i think, from watching him play over that time is thatthere does seem to be a difference between when he starts and when he comes on later in the game
