SPARTA Re: Anton interview part 1 - http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/footb ... e_planning

All of these plans and the work gone into them already, as well as actually implementing them, costs the club an awful lot. Just makes you laugh at those who keep asking where the money is. The squad didn't get as much investment as we needed, and the manager and owner have admitted as much - a lesson learned; but we still spent a considerable amount inclusive of wages, record agent fees etc, and God knows how much spent behind the scenes already on improving our facilities at the training ground, as well as for the aforementioned plans for the club.

This club continues to grow off and on the pitch. I for one am extremely happy with our progress. I just hope we can stay up and see the plans come to fruition. These are very exciting times to be a Reading supporter.

And here's Part two http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/footb ... reading_fc

I'm sure some will try to tear it apart (just waiting for the first out of context quote of him saying he can't afford to live in England as a demonstration that he has no money  ), but to me Anton seems very genuine, and if that is the case then I feel pretty happy about the direction the club's going in....

I'll give Zingarevich one thing. He's WAY more media savvy than Sir John!

I agree that it's all very positive and although he's made a few mistakes and will no doubt make others, I do feel confident that Anton is here for the long term and he'll work very hard to take the club forwards and stick to his guns. That's all I want from an owner, to be honest, and I'm quietly confident that whatever happens this season, Reading will become established int he PL within five years.

Sorry but there's something fundamentally wrong with anyone who says they go to bed thinking of RFC when you see the alternative distraction on offer!

That's probably a lot easier to achieve if you don't crave being in the limelight! Nice to hear Anton state that he's happy to meet fans but that he doesn't want to be in their faces.

I did not say that I am not enjoying being a Reading supporter, in fact there are few clubs I'd rather support

He'd be stung for tax if he lived here, so I don't blame him. He clearly loves being the owner of the club, and is very ambitious. It all takes time and patience. I really like the guy! I wouldn't want to see us spending money like Chelsea or City either. Much rather enjoy having a younger more ambitious (in terms of money) version of SJM here for the future.

How can the club say they bid £10 mill+ for Sigurdsson, when the owner cannot even afford to live in the UK?

Most notice part I'd say is

JF : Alex Pearce, is he going to sign a new contract?

AZ : We are trying to get it done and he is playing all the time. Mostly it is up to him, but he has promised me he will sign, so we will see.

I thought the first part of the interview with Anton by Fordham was a complete waste of space. Everything just read like a duller than dull press release. However, I thought part two was much more enlightening. Unless I'm completely blinkered Anton in this interview seems to be genuinely committed to Reading and is enjoying being the owner. He also seems to respect the views and opinions of people who have been around the club a lot longer than him. Frankly, I would be horrified if I was a Chelsea fan since Obramovich's reign but that's another issue for General Football.

Not Sure if Serious. He's was talking about not being able to afford the time to be here, not the money.

Topical timing in light of today's result:-

Southampton net expenditure of transfers this season is £37m. I think every on here would have to agree they now have a superior squad to us and a much better chance of staying up.

Yet they just announced a £900k profit for the 6 months to Dec 2012.

Would love to know the Reading FC equivalent numbers.

They already have top class training facilities, youth facilities, and a stadium with considerable capacity..therefore are able to spend all their extra revenue on player transfers.

Not all BM fault?

by Delboy » 10 Mar 2013 09:10

We were the weakest squad promoted and have spent the least money. Is it BM fault or the Board? Should we have got in Wally Downs to sort out our defence, on motd it showed our defensive weaknesses. We need to build for next season, I would stick with BM but back him and change Nigel Gibbs.

:| our facilities are hardly thread bare. And even if they were, what significant sum of cash have we spent on them?

Will take your point re: their stadium generates more revenue, but it's not that huge a difference - 6,000 extra seats @ £30 = £180,000. So a nominal impact on the overall figures - Their revenue for the 6 month period was £32m.
