What do Brendan Rodgers and Brian McDermott have in common?

Both managers have made the same excuse for their seasons so far.

Brendan Rodgers has blamed a lack of luck as one of the main reasons for Liverpool’s inconsistency so far this season.

Rodgers has claimed that Liverpool’s performances, especially against the bigger sides, have not been met with the right rewards has luck has apparently gone against them on several occasions.

“In a lot of our games, we haven’t had any luck. Hopefully as time goes on the luck will change and we’ll get the results we deserve,” he said in a press conference.

Getting déjà vu yet? You should be because this exact same excuse has been wheeled out by Reading boss, Brian McDermott, as a reason for his club’s battle against relegation this season.

Reading are currently in the bottom three sandwiched between Wigan Athletic and Aston Villa just below and above them.

McDermott has also suggested that Reading have not had the luck they deserve which could have made a difference to their current league position.

“I had a text from someone who said, 'You've had no luck whatsoever', so that's got to change. We'll just keep doing what we're doing,” said McDermott earlier in the season.

You have to look at the position of each club to try and gauge who has been the unluckiest out of the two sides.

Liverpool are in the top half of the table and hunting a European place. They are still in the Europa League despite losing the first leg against Zenit St Petersburg and the infrastructure of the club is much stronger than Reading’s.

Liverpool also have a glimmer of hope of getting into fourth place if their ‘luck’ changes and they produce a superb run of form while their rivals fall away from the European challenge.

They could also still finish the season with some silverware.

Therefore, you can sympathise with McDermott a lot more than you can with Rodgers because Reading are teetering on the edge of relegation which could be financially devastating for the club.

Who’s been unluckier?

I opened the article expecting the answer to be both managers have tried to relegate Reading.

That article was a pile of oxf*rd....especially as it says McDermott is talking about a text he received. As much as I hate the uncompromising tactical idiot that is Brendan Rodgers, knowing the guy I'd say there's a 75% chance that he sent the text to Brian! Talking about bad luck and how a team deserved better on the quality of their play is Brendan all over....
