we never bid for him. he was just a name being banded around by the new owner. If we wanted him, Anton would have funded it

He was always going to be a target. Roberts, Hunt and Church all out of contract, and Pogrebnyak will want out the minute we are confirmed relegated. We have to hope we can keep Le Fondre too.

So much work to do this summer. Even a big budget might not be enough if we want to replace these players with better or at worst like-for-like.

Why would we go there? Makes no sense to me whatsoever. Would rather keep the current crop.

Sharp is miles better than Church and Hunt who are likely to leave, and he's also better than Blackman, so that's an immediate improvement if he comes in.

I think Hunt will get a new deal personally & I think he deserves at least another year. I just don't see Sharp doing well for us.

I think Hunt would be OK for 3rd or 4th choice, but also wouldn't lose any sleep if we lost him either. Interesting that you don't see Sharp doing well for us. Why's that? He is a little too similar to Le Fondre for me, but a proven striker at Championship level. Adkins is going to turn this lot into a passing side, and he favoured 4-4-2 last season. He might want a big man alongside him (Blackman or A.Nother).

Not sure why - I guess I see him as a bit of a journeyman that wouldn't really make the cut if we did bounce back. Would rather take a punt on someone for the future I suppose. What we have at present is enough IMO especially if we can convince Pog to stay. It's the midfield that needs major surgery...

Plus he never settled down south anyway & hated it by all accounts.

This would be the same Adkins that sent him out on loan. If we did sign him though he would be the diver we've lacked since Long left.

One thing the PL proves is that you get nowhere being honest. We need to hassle refs and try and buy free-kicks in and around the box. We need players to take a dive. It's ugly, it's part of the game I don't like, but we need to be less honest in our football.

I agree with the first bit seeing as we'll be losing Church, Roberts and probably one of Pog and ALF, hopefully not both. I'd be very happy to see Sharp here though. He'd be one of those short term signings who'll do a job for a season or so while you plan for your upgrade to take you on to the next level.

Please explain? How on earth would signing a decent Championship striker in Billy Sharp make us a 'clown outfit'?
