Royal Lady As I've just said on another thread, if it's not about trying to stay up this season, why not stick with McD until the end of the season. It's about the money and it's about a long-shot in staying up this season.

For the very simple reason that had we done so, the ghost of Brian would probably have lived on with the new manager, whoever that might have been, suffering the traditional slow start to the season as he and the players got to know each other.

I really can't see why so many people, particularly pundits (actually I can see why they can't as most footballers aren't the sharpest knives in the block!), fail to see the logic and great sense behind the timing of McDermott's dismissal. He was given the Xmas/New Year period, another transfer window, and key games against relegation rivals to demonstrate that he could turn things around. He failed to do that. So, with our fate virtually sealed, it made fantastic sense to remove him from the position and appoint a new manager. That new manager now has the benefit of six weeks or so and a good number of games this season to get to know the strengths and weaknesses of his players, assess what needs to be done over the summer and get Hammond starting work on that now. Hopefully, as a consequence, we will see the bulk of our business being done very early on in the summer, our new squad will be assembled and Adkins will have plenty of time to work with them (ideally with some meaningful friendlies) over the summer period. Contrast that to firing McDermott at the end of the season, then having to find a replacement who will then be behind the game when it comes to rebuilding our squad.

The timing of the dismissal was a smart move by Anton that will hopefully get us ahead of the game and if, by an absolute miracle, Adkins does manage to keep us up, that will be a very significant added bonus.

I'm sure that you are right RB

and I am delighted by our appointment of England's future manager, but........

Its just that the rest of the football world still thinks that we are mad

Because they are all thinking it's because it was last ditch attempt to stay up. That's the media's narrative and they are sticking to it.

Perhaps try arguing against the reasons others have put forward to answer your question many times over instead of just repeating it constantly.

tbf I don't give 2 shits about what the media say about RFC. And I suspect most Reading fans are the same.

Big Ern
Cureton's Volley Gutting to watch.... our club really is a bit shit in every way really

Why. Manager who made a complete balls up of the season in being fired shock. Yes he is a very nice person, but then again so was Mother Teresa. I doubt she would have hacked it I'm the Prem.
Not even with the Saints?

jellytot I think that this season has been a harsh lesson for AZ. You can see that he hates being on camera perhaps he needs to use someone who can do the talking on his behalf? It cannot be easy.
If that isn't the chairman or director of football then maybe they'll be on the way out shortly too.

Sir John Madejski has been very quiet on the subject, he's usually eager to hog the limelight so perhaps he disagreed with the un-Reading like decision?

Considering the amount of comment about the lack of knowledge and attention the media and the likes of MOTD give us and the abuse aimed at pundits like Lawrenson I'd say a lot of Reading fans care quite a bit.

Personally I've given up on the media these days and hardly read any comment on the club as most of it is so ill-informed and wide of the mark it's almost as bad as accidentally reading a post by Ideal.

Looks like a vacant job at Leeds before their next game. Warnock doesn`t expect to be in charge for it.
