I have made no secret of the fact that I was very upset by Brian's sacking. I felt that he deserved the whole season after all he had achieved - then in the summer we could have sat back and thought about whether he was the best option for taking the club back up again.

One of the main reasons given on this thread for the early sacking was that Adkins would have time to assess his squad and then spend lots of money rebuilding in the summer. I heard figures like 20M being made available to him to rebuild and comments that Anton did not trust Brian to spend all that money.

Well that has all been proved to be nonsense. Since Anton took over our overall net spend on players has been around zero - not even 5M let alone 20M. From his various comments Adkins clearly expected more and also publicly stated that he would not be using the loan market apart from an exceptional player.

If the intention was to spend nothing and sell two of out three best players of last season to boot, what was the point of sacking Brian. He had proved himself an expect at getting the best from a squad of freebies and loans whereas Adkins was given millions to spend by Southampton. I am now truly mystified about the reasons for his sacking.

Part of the reason that sacking McDermott was "The Right Decision" came down to giving a new man time to assess the squad, invest properly in it and develop the team into something that would bounce back up and hopefully stay there, something that perhaps McDermott couldn't do.

We've signed just 3 players and ended up losing two decent ones on deadline day. It's starting to look like the wrong decision if you ask me; the fans have been lied to.
