Pub of the day for me probably the Alexandra Hotel. More ales on you could count on two hands, and railway livery on the walls.

Shout outs too to the Exeter and Brunswick. Disappointed not to make it to the Flowerpot.

I was sat in the Brunswick reading a text "gone to railway themed CAMRA pub" rolling my eyes and sipping on my orange squash.

At least they didn't confiscate my hummus at the turnstile.

Ian Royal Watched online.

First half we weren't too fluid, but had a few moments where we looked quality. Derby never really threatened too much despite looking the stronger team. Second half we scored almost straight away and started to dictate the game. Derby fell apart looking bereft of ideas until the last 15 or so.

McCarthy - 8 comfortable throughout most of the game. Good punches. Routine saves for the most part, one great down low to his left from Hughes.
Gunter - 6 dropped two or three clangers but did alright otherwise
Kelly - 6.5 ok, less good on the left as you'd expect.
Pearce - 7.5 good and an assist for one of the goals
Morrison - 7.5 good, although he got caught out once or twice, but not punished.
Guthrie - 8 MOTM he's still over and under hitting a few passes, but he's the heartbeat of the side
Baird - 7 good debut, I think he'll get better
Obita - 6 some flashes of quality but largely a bit anonymous although out of position
McCleary - 7 dangerous first half, faded a little second
HRK - 7.5 quiet first half, started looking really good second. great chest and cross for McCleary to volley over and a great chest and pass for Blackman to score
Pog - 8 some very good hold up play, two very well taken goals, still goes down too easily too often, but this is more like what I expected from him this season.

Akpan - 7 better, killed time well in the corners. I like the way he looks to bring the ball down, but he's got a way to go yet.
Cummings n/a I didn't even notice he'd come on.
Blackman - 7 didn't do anything much except score. Despite a poor touch to make it a much harder chance than it needed to be he tucked it away. Kick on please.

Shame Derby scored as we might otherwise have seen Tshibola. Still want to see ALF start, but I understandwhy he isn't and it certainly worked today. Good job from Adkins, great voice from the fans and decent refereeing as well. We could do with a bit more discipline to avoid unnecessary yellows though.

Very happy with that result and performance for what was essentially a weakened team.

Also watched online, agree 100% with these ratings.

McCleary was absolutely outstanding today, Obita also looked great.

Guthrie and Baird completed a really solid midfield.

Pog looked much, much better today as well.

Derby's goal was a great finish.

McCarthy made some great stops.

So nice to finally see a really good performance

Our fans were pretty loud. Derby's were pretty quiet, drum aside. Nice of some racist dickhead to pick me out from the other side of the empty seats. Also, we have some right dicks in our fan base, shamefully I know them as they are in my brothers year at his school.

Bit harsh on Obita, especially when you give Pearce credit for an assist.
IIRC It was Obita's quality set piece delivery that set up Pearce with a great chance. Pearce then pretty much scuffed his header and it fell to Pog to bury it.
Up till then we had created very little, so I think for that delivery alone Obita's got to get a 7.
I think he put in a few other decent set piece deliveries as well, and generally kept the ball well and contributed to attacks.
Worthy of a 7 at least.

How did Pog and hrk look as a partnership? And Guthrie and Baird our best partnership or Karacan/Williams a better option than Baird?

I thought Baird yesterday was solid but nothing special. Akpan did just as well when he came on.That said, with some more game time, and more than just a day to bed in, I think he'll be stellar for us.

That's fair comment and if you read back through the pages you'd find a +1 for Obita from me after I was reminded he took the freekick.

Pog and HRK weren't a partnership. The formation was (IMO):

................McCarthy
..Gunter, Morrison, Pearce, Kelly
........Baird, Guthrie, Obita
McCleary...........................HRK
...................Pog

Although Obita perhaps got forward a little more. I think Guthrie, Baird and either Karacan or Williams is a very very good midfield to have. Baird and Williams possibly best suited to a central pair, but it's very hard to say this early and without seeing it tried. And we'd lose our heartbeat that way.

I reckon Baird vs Karacan is a similar comparison to Kelly vs Gunter.
Arguably Baird and Kelly may be the more defensively solid players, but Karacan and Gunter are stamina engines that will keep going right till the end and likely give you more in attack.

It's possible that Karacan's injury may keep Gunter in the team. I think we'd look a bit depleted without both our runners.
