The team that won the PL by 11 points you mean?

He might well have got out at right time, but I don't think much of the blame can be laid at Mr Ferguson's door for this season's malfunctioning outfit!

I wonder if part of it is that refs don't give so many pens/free kicks/added time to Man Utd anymore - seemed like they were all scared of Ferguson, now he's gone, they're more even handed :D

Royal Rother I'd love to watch a cam focused on Utd supporters faces throughout the game. Slapped arses the lot of them! :)

There was one, and all the East Stand concourse broke out in laughter as it panned from one sad face to another. Absolutely brilliant!

That 'crock of shite' won the league last season, and didn't spend £100m the previous summer to achieve it..

I had to listen to the radio a couple of times.

Man U fans booing their team off at Old Trafford.....unheard of

FFS, this is a long term development project.

They need to get used to the odd defeat or three.

In terms of points they are closer to the relegation zone than top of the league. Don't worry United fans. I honestly believe you will beat the drop.

Agreed.

One of the things I hate about modern football.

Such short memories. Fergie was given 3 years to get it right and was at times 1 game from the sack. When he finally cracked the league, they hadn't won it for 25 years

And the really funny thing is, I see a massive parallels between the present day Liverpool and the Manchester United of 1990. Approaching 25 years without a title, young manager with an impressive CV, struggling at first but starting to get things right.

Ferguson before Man United:
1 Scottish 1st division title
3 SPL titles (with a non Old Firm club)
4 Scottish cups
1 Scottish League Cup
1 UEFA Cup Winners Cup (against Real Madrid)
1 UEFA Super Cup

Rodgers before Liverpool:
Left Watford after 6 months
Sacked after an utterly dismal and clueless 6 month spell at Reading
1 Championship Play-Off final

On 606 last night the presenter was making a strong (in fact ridiculously strong) case for Moyes to be given much more time.
One caller suggested that the example of Fergie being given time and then succeeding was not necessarily the blueprint for success and suggested that only Fergie and Wenger had really proven to be successful whereas MOST managers when given time don't succeed.
An interesting thought countering the idea that a manager has to allways be given time.

As for Moyes, he has taken over the champions and nobody has left, in fact they spent quite a lot of money on Fellaini to presumably improve the squad.
So the problem either rests with the players (who we are often told do not become bad players overnight) or the manager.
Long may they both continue to get it wrong.

The difference between Fergie's initial struggles and Moyes struggling now is massive. When Fergie took over United had spent years in the wilderness consistently failing in the league despite probably being the richest team at that time.
He took over from Ron Atkinson who the tabloid newspapers thought would finally crack it and for a couple of seasons had billed the league as a two horse race with Liverpool only for United to finish 4th. He went to United having had success with Aberdeen. Anyone who wins the league in Scotland without being manager of Celtic or Rangers obviously knows how to win leagues.
Moyes on the other hand took over a team that had just strolled the league so doesn't have that excuse. He has no experience whatsoever when it comes to challenging for league titles and has never won a major trophy. The skill set required to keep a mid sized premier league club like Everton punching above their weight and actually meeting expectations at a club who pretty much always finish top 2 like United is enormous. Why United choose someone without the relevant experience of chasing honours when probably 80% of managers would have accepted the job is beyond me. He is completely out of his depth. My only concern is that if things don't improve soon they may sack him.

Ah now I can see his post I was 100% spot on. Liverpool results always have been and always will be more important to us. Though I do admit to enjoying Moyes fecking up especially as I predicted he would struggle.

Moyles biggest mistake was to get rid of the old backroom staff..I know all new managers do it but it makes him a very lonely figure when things go wrong,

It was a big mistake but I think their failings in the summer transfer window was just as big.
