Ian Royal You can also have two people credited with an assist for the same goal, albeit its fairly rare.
An example might be Jobi's (?) corner for Pearce's head back to ALF to head in.

Then you might be disappointed in the way most of the people who record assist stats do it.

its not american football. you cant define the game by stats, no matter how hard you try. but...McCleary to Le Fondre for the 1st goal was not a deflected pass anyway, it was a blocked shot. Why should he be given massive credit for having his shot blocked. That's not an achievement
Mcleary aimed his shot across goal, specifically because the percentages are better, and if you miss hit it slightly there will be a chance it may go directly, or rebound to the other striker at the far post, so....
