Notice Gosport are in the semis of the FA Trophy with Sammy Igoe still playing! :D Wonder if the final is televised?

Saw some photos of SYCOB's pitch having a few large puddles on it on Saturday morning yet Stag Meadow was fine! I know the pitches/care/money spent on them are different but THAT different?! :shock:

A few years ago, W&EFC spent a lot of money on a drainage system. All things considered, it was money well spent.

Rather it was spent on other things but yeah the benefits are being reaped by the new club.

Red Nev and Ryan Giggs looking at buying Salford City. Is there any 'academy' sides in the pyramid after Team Bath folded other than this lot who are going to be playing games at the Richo Arena?! http://www.coventryobserver.co.uk/2014/ ... 95804.html

Plenty of young players who don't get pro deals but hope to work their way in so surprised there isn't more of them dotted around.

..can't give a definitve 'yay' or 'nay' on this -

- certainly none like 'Team Baah' - as their city rivals occasionally referred to them - other than perhaps by name in our local (featured) leagues.

'New College Swindon' have recently stepped up from Wilts leagues into Hellenic Div One and certainly down nr Soton/Pompey there a few Step06/07 Wessex and Hants clubs that may have sprung out of academic foundations - such as Team Solent; University of Portsmouth; the 're-born' Andover Town - who were grown out of something to do with Sparsholt College.

Bit nearer still in the N.Berks there is Westminster - who play out of College facilities up nr Botley.

The highest 'academy' like club I could find in the south are C.R.C. (Cambridge Regional College) who are feeder club for United:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambridge_ ... ollege_F.C.

... they currently reside in STEP05 Eastern Counties League - so I s'pose might make Isthmian/Ryman North One day - should their constitution be carefully worded enough? 8)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Can't see there being much of a Preview from me for tomorrow - with much more heavy rain forecast across the south - in spite of the sunny spells now - my lads game tomorrow was called off quite early yesterday.
I'll try and post the flotsam/jetsam still floating sometime late tomorrow AM.
....actually ventured up to York Rd this midweek - saw some very sorry soggy Magpies finish well beaten (0-3) by the 'Seagulls' from Weston-super-Mud. Farnborough helped out by seeing off Tonbridge at Cherrywood Rd - and I believe the other strugglers around Maidenhead who played, dropped points too.
I also noticed the Sh!ts bowed out of the Trophy Q-F on Tuesday - going down 4-1 at Havant - who now play Gosport in the Semi's.
In the Vase: the much delayed 4th round game at Hanwell - was postponed again during the day on Tuesday and will now be played at Ashford United (Kent) this Saturday - though their hastily re-arranged/re-instated midweek league game H v Canterbury was postponed - also due to waterlogging and it don't look good for this w/e. Problem is the 5th Round ties are due to be played w/e 15th and the FA will be very keen to get this one over with.
... other games that were played on Tue:
- in the Southern League - Sluff bt Aylesbury 2-0 - Chesham put EIGHT past Banbury in the Premier, Egham bt Ashford (Mx) 4-0 and Hungerford bt Burnham 7-3 in the League Cup - although I believe there's been a bit of an exodus at The Gore as, sadly the money has rumoured to have run out. :?
...AND huge shock down at Cove in the CCLP; where they registered their first HOME league win of this season at the 11th attempt :D 3-2 v Badshot Lea. After S.Park and E&E up at the top, Cove do have the best AWAY record in the division ! :shock:
..... Then the rains came again and wiped out all of Wednesday's fixtures. :evil:
Apparently the pitch at Staines is flooded and was on sky sports news as was Abingdon's. No idea how clubs can keep going when they have month after month of no home game to get money in!
Staines are fortunate to the extent that there is a private members gym in their main stand which I sure would help to pay the bills.
- Chose this one – M40 was playing silly buggers otherwise I might have tried for Chesham or Sluff – good local tussle – Ab Utd had the edge but were poor up front – bright sunny skies – strong gusty wind and the pitch looked fine.
The town itself looks somewhat besieged by floods though. I drove back on A415/A4074 and their near neighbours Ab. Town (as featured on SSN above) won’t be playing at home for a while yet – pitch still submerged. Hellenic League will have to move fast to try and get some kind of new groundsharing arrangements in place for the two sides that currently use Culham Rd. (‘Abbots’ and AFC Hinksey)
- The only other ‘local’ NL games in that area that were played; at Lambourn, (who ironically folded earlier this season but are letting any other clubs in the area use their facilities if needed) Ardington & Lockinge lost out by the odd goal in seven to Berinsfield in N.Berks Div One and a N.Berks Charity Shield Q-F was played @ Dorchester. The drainage in that specific area must be astonishing - think its surrounded by Lakes and old Gravel/Shale Pits so appears bone dry half an hour after a cloudburst.
Terminal Boardom Binfield v Windsor tonight in the B&B Senior Trophy semi-final. By all accounts, this will go ahead.
...well I wos there - looked a good turn out from the Stag M'dow crew too and evidently enjoyed the result - att official 192 - plenty huddled out of the constant but light drizzly stuff.
Clever worked opener for Moles - nice finish by Carl Withers too - but suspect his legs gave up early 2nd half trying to track some livewire runners through midfield for the visitors. Continually managed to turn the Binfield back four - which isn't the quickest, maybe missing a few regulars too - and Windsor could/should have had more.
Equaliser early-ish 2nd half, screaming free-kick - following a daft challenge on the edge of the box, as home side failed to clear the ball under pressure. Windsor winner from the penalty spot - didn't see the incident clearly but seemingly a needless handball about 15' from the end.
Moles tried to up the pace and had some success down the left (Seb Bowerman had switched over from the right) but rarely produced enough threatening deliveries. May well have been suffering from inactivity - haven't played a league game since Boxing Day - they did manage to hit the far post as a player slid in from a narrow angle.
Ref's patience snapped - with Moles back-line continually whinging at every dead ball - and sent two of them off in one go (2nd Yellows) near the end, as they surrounded him for the umpteenth time, to moan about Windsor's (understandable) time-wasting.
- I s'pose the lesson for Binfield is you won't win enough games without a forward line - they've sold off a series of them in recent times - latest being Cornell to Sluff. JJ runs hard but is too often left isolated or prone to poor choice on the ball - and he's not the biggest either. Will need to address this if they wish to start challenging at the upper end of the table next season - too late now I'd guess.
So Windsor deservedly progress to the Final v Abingdon Utd or RTFC - that semi- is due to be played @ Abingdon tomorrow (that's the Abingdon side whose pitch is currently ABOVE water 8) )- weather permitting - there's s'posed to be lots more wet stuff on the way tomorrow PM/Eve :( .
Thanks for that, I couldn't go last night. Shame.
Nice to have a final to look forward to as we won't be winning the league.
