Four Of Clubs Potters Bar Town 0-3 Slough Town

Another victory (6 in a row) against a very young PBT team, on a terrible pitch (fair play to the ref for not calling the game off) in front of 141 people (mostly from Berkshire).

Anyway, some pics (not mine I hasten to add) to convey the scene.

Pitch before the game...

Dugout...

Goalmouth action...

Big Match Atmosphere...

Potters Bar fans behind the goal...

Demolition work on Maidenhead's old stand (ie. lean on it and it will fall over) commenced yesterday. A temporary structure will be erected ( :lol: ) in the meantime and the new build will be completed in time for the new season.

I hear the MMS have sponsored a seat in the new stand. Those publicity-seeking blood-thirsty yobs :!:

Windsor's B&BST Final to be played at a proper non-league ground. It's at Chesham Utd's spanking little ground.

At least it won't be like W&E's last final where MK Dons stewards made the noisey lot sit. After all they were blocking the view of the 19000 odd seats ( or however big that soulless bowl is!)

Chesham has a cracking burger van from what i remember and a pretty view from one end! 8)

... Amy Lane is definitely one of our better 'local' grounds - and the food there is indeed very good. Also a great view of the pitch from the fairly spacious bar, which is built up above one side terrace. Parking can be a bit of git if there's large attendance though: - from memory last went three or four years ago, for a late summer PSF, when Sluff were in town - doubt if it will be too much of an issue - might well pencil this one in! :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...here's tomorrow's NL programme - and the weather seems to be improving significantly :D - even my lad's team should finally get a game on at RG College - typical then that he's unavailable (Woodley Festival) - may take him somewhere nice for a match in the PM as compensation - but would need to be pretty local! (Not actually sure he's been to York Rd yet?)
Highmoor Ibis v Shrivenham - saw Shane S-K's boys win a 7 goal thriller up at Thame on Tuesday - feisty as ever - though their reputation precedes them in many cases. The lino on the far side certainly had a gripe with them - got involved twice in lengthy consultations with the ref which resulted in two more Red cards for H/I - on the pitch they do some great things and its no wonder they find themselves in 2nd place - much to the displeasure of a lot of fans on the Chat Room :twisted: .- playing staff seemed a bit thin on the ground with suspensions and absences (no Mr Spence) so much so that Shane himself came out of 'retirement' to play a full 90' and big bad Marcus R was named on the bench. Ferrugia played as stand-in keeper.
Results from yesterday's NL:-
FA Vase ¼ Finals
1 St Andrews 1-0 Newcastle Benfield
2 Eastbourne United 2-1 Ampthill Town
3 Sholing 1-0 Wisbech Town - got here - crowd just over 400 but ground seemed very cramped - not sure they'll cope too well if the semi-final provokes even greater interst and there's a significant away following.
4 Dunston UTS 0-1 West Auckland Town
... so the semi-finalist include only one Northern team - and two STEP06 clubs (Eastbourne and St Andrews - nr Leicester). First time since '07 we may have a southern club at Wembley in the Vase. Think W.Auclkand would be most people's favourites but Sholing will be hard to beat even over two legs.
CONFP
Barnet 0-1 Gateshead FC
Tamworth 1-0 Aldershot Town
Woking 2-0 Southport
CONFN
Oxford City 2-2 Leamington
CONFS
Chelmsford City 3-1 Bromley
Burnham 2-0 Poole Town
Chesham United 2-1 Corby Town
Hungerford Town 0-0 Frome Town
SOUTH1C
AFC Hayes 1-1 Potters Bar Town
Ashford Town (Middx) 3-1 Leighton Town - some life down the bottom of the Southern One Central - think Ashford (Mx) are unbeaten in 3 now after a wretched season to date and are no longer cast adrift - now in touching distance of Chertsey and NGU - however they host leaders Rugby on Tue night. :?
Aylesbury 3-3 Beaconsfield SYCOB
Aylesbury United 0-0 Egham Town
here's today's offerings from 'local' NL:
Saturday 15th March
CONFP
Aldershot v Nuneaton Town
(Monday: Live BTSport Luton v Woking)
CONFS
Bath City v Dorchester Town
Eastbourne Borough v Chelmsford City
Eastleigh v Bishops Stortford
Farnborough v Bromley
Gosport Borough v Boreham Wood
Havant & Waterlooville v Staines Town
Hayes & Yeading Utd v Concord Rangers
Maidenhead United v Dover Athletic – two home defeats midweek for 'Magpies' puts them right back in the relegation fight after their good win last Sat. Sadly both reverses v 0-1 Boreham Wd & 1-2 v Gosport, were due to late 'sickeners' - the one in the Wood game timed around 94’.
Sutton United v Basingstoke Town 'stoke also went down in midweek 1-2 at home to Eastbourne Borough
Tonbridge Angels v Weston-Super-Mare
Whitehawk v Ebbsfleet United
SOUTHP
Banbury United v Hungerford Town
Cambridge City v Chesham United 2nd visit 4th
Redditch United v Burnham
SOUTH1C
Beaconsfield SYCOB v Kettering Town
Chalfont St Peter v Northwood
Daventry Town v Slough Town - 'Rebels' in 4th travel to 3rd place PO rivals
Egham Town v North Greenford United
Leighton Town v Chertsey Town
Marlow v Rugby Town - 'Blues' who had a poor result at strugglers Leighton in MW host league leaders who themselves have only taken 3 pts from the last 4 games including sharing points with bottom club Ashford Town (Mx) on Tuesday.
SOUTH1S&W
Evesham United v Fleet Town
Guildford City v Shortwood United
Mangotsfield United v Godalming Town
13:00 Merthyr Town v Didcot Townearlier KO due to some ‘Oval-Ballery’ going on later nearby?
North Leigh v Yate Town
Thatcham Town v Cirencester Town
CCLP
Alton Town v Raynes Park Vale
Ash United v Mole Valley SCR
Camberley Town v Bedfont Sports – Camberley in 2nd host much improved Sports, who’ve battled their way out of the bottom 3 with four straight wins in the league and indeed have only lost 1 in the last 9 – since I saw them beaten at home by Windsor in late November.
Chessington & Hook United v Windsor – Windsor back in 4th now with some big gaps developing to the teams above them – E&E in 3rd - did their customary job on leaders South Park – winning 2-0 at Whitehall Lane and are now 5 points above Windsor with a game in hand.
Colliers Wood United v Badshot Lea
Croydon v Cove
Frimley Green v Molesey
Hanworth Villa v Farnham Town
Horley Town v Epsom & Ewell
Wembley v South Park
Westfield v Hartley Wintney
CCL1
CB Hounslow United v Cobham
Dorking v Farleigh Rovers Postponed - presumably no available venue?
Eversley & California v Bedfont & Feltham
Sandhurst Town v Banstead Athletic
South Kilburn v Knaphill
Staines Lammas v AFC Croydon Athletic
Worcester Park v Epsom Athletic
HELLP
Brimscombe & Thrupp v Binfield
Cheltenham Saracens v Ascot United
Flackwell Heath v Ardley United
Highmoor Ibis v Thame United
Oxford City Nomads v Abingdon United
Reading Town v Highworth Town – RTFC reportedly short of defenders – particularly at CB where Michael Buck has declared he will no longer be available due to work commitments – intriguing to see if he still turns out for Cove where (I think) he was dual-registered?
The other regular CBs are both out injured; Dennis suffered a broken nose in the defeat by Flackwell last week and Hancock has been missing for a while.
- I saw them lose a fairly entertaining game on Tuesday night @ Scours 2-3 v Binfield. Their back four played OK but twice went missing at corners allowing big Callum Whitty to strike. RTFC kept ‘Moles' new striker Brad Brown quiet enough and Josh Warren looked lively up front for Town – scoring twice - but they eventually lost to a thunderous wallop of a free-kick by hat-trick hero Whitty!
'Moles’ own defence were pretty porous on the night too – they look very vulnerable in both FB areas.
UPDATE : Match @ SCOURS Postponed - Electrical Fault! :shock:
Shrivenham v Wantage Town
Challenge Cup Round 3
Easington Sports v Rayners Lane
Supplementary Cup Round 3
Chalfont Wasps v Kidlington
Wootton Bassett Town v Penn & Tylers Green
HELL1W
Lydney Town v Letcombe
HELL1E
AFC Hinksey v Milton United – can’t confirm if this is on – the estimate was that Culham Rd would be unavailable for quite some time yet – suppose it would be easy enough to switch across the A34 to the ’Heights’ providing Milton’s Ressies aren’t in action? The league are usually a bit sniffy about short-term work-arounds - though its not as if they weren’t aware of Ab Town’s and Hinksey’s plight.
Chinnor v Wokingham & Emmbrook
Didcot Town Reserves v Burnham Reserves
Henley Town v Headington Amateurs
Woodley Town v Maidenhead United Reserves
WESSP
Whitchurch United v Hamworthy United
WESS1
Amesbury Town v Fleet Spurs
Andover New Street v Andover Town
Tadley Calleva v Laverstock & Ford
Chessie 2-3 Windsor
Poor game, terrible pitch, but a 90th minute screamer from Aaron Minhas was worth the admission!
As was the comical refereeing. He kept ignoring his Lino who made several correct decisions and was overruled. Really bizarre. At one point the Lino gave a goal kick for Chessie after Windsor had headed wide, and, after about his 4th overrule head butted the corner flag in amused frustration, then ran back up the line smiling and shaking his head.
...round-up of yesterdays' NL matches:
Saturday 15th March
CONFP
Aldershot 2-2 Nuneaton Town
CONFS
Bath City 1-0 Dorchester Town
Eastbourne Borough 4-2 Chelmsford City
Eastleigh 4-2 Bishops Stortford - with ‘Brommers’ suffering a 2nd consecutive setback – ‘Spitfires’ now top the pile
Farnborough 2-1 Bromley
Gosport Borough 2-1 Boreham Wood
Havant & Waterlooville 0-2 Staines Town
Hayes &YeadingUtd 1-0 Concord Rangers
Maidenhead United 1-2 Dover – another home defeat (three in five days) and of course yet another late goal conceded! ‘Magpies’ seem to be in serious bother now – on a cluster of four clubs with 29 points but have played the most – indeed next weeks’ Trophy Finalists Gosport Borough have 4 in hand and have picked up 10 pts from a possible 12.
Sutton United 4-0 Basingstoke Town
Tonbridge Angels 1-0 Weston-Super-Mare
Whitehawk 1-1 Ebbsfleet United
Marlow 2-6 Rugby Town - ‘Blues’ defence a matter of some concern – leaked 10 in the last two
SOUTH1S&W
Evesham United 2-1 Fleet Town - Fleet host Guildford on Monday night - a win for the home side would see them swap positions at the foot of the table.
Guildford City 0-0Shortwood United
Merthyr Town 5-1 Didcot Town
North Leigh 3-0 Yate Town
Thatcham Town 0-1 Cirencester Town
Worcester Park 2-2 Epsom Athletic
HELLP
Brimscombe&Thrupp 2-3 Binfield 'Moles' form picking up a bit - go to leaders Ardley on Tuesday
Cheltenham Saracens 1-5 Ascot United - 'Yellamen' capitalise on sides around them faltering a bit this PM - still in 4th but closing the gap to a couple of points and have 7 of their remaining 9 games at home.
Flackwell Heath 3-1 Ardley United
Highmoor Ibis 0-1 Thame United - not the result H/I needed with Ardley slipping up above them - saw the reverse fixture of this a week or so back and there were plenty of afters - 2 REDS for H/I - will have a nose about to check nothing untoward went on at Palmer Pk :?
Oxford City Nomads 0-0 Abingdon United
Shrivenham 1-1 Wantage Town - 'Freds unable to to benefit from leaders slip up either, dropping points to strugglers Shrivvy - though I think this is the third meeting here between the two sides in a month or so.
..fairly busy midweek so far locally in NL.
First up congrats to Woking who got a great win at runaway Conference Premier leaders Luton, 1-0 on Monday night. They inflicted on the Hatters a first home defeat of 13/14 in front of a crowd close to 7k.
On the same night :
CONF South: Farnborough got a point in a 1-1 at Boreham Wd
Southern One S&W: Fleet Town lost their basement battle to Guildford City 2-3
Last night (Tue)
CONF Prem
Sh!ts 0-0 Kidderminster
CONF North
Oxford City 2-1 Histon
CONF South
Basingstoke 0-0 Tonbridge Angels - lucky escape I nearly went to the Camrose
- top two Bromley and Eastleigh both won, latter doing 'Magpies' a favour hammering Whitehawk 4-1. 3rd place Sutton by Trophy Finalists Gosport 2-0.
SOUTHERN Prem
- Hungerford's home game with Chipp'num was abandoned on 26' - player injury (visitors Rob Dean).
- Burnham went down 2-1 at strugglers Totton but have probably got enough points on the board now to survive, with Bedford and Bashley virtually 'gone'; Totton in the last official relegation spot are 16 points behind Burnham with 9 games left. This league is also playing 'one short' I think?
South One Central - most action involved the bottom of the table
- North Greenford and Chertsey Town both lost but Ashford Town (Mx) continue their late revival with another win this time 2-1 vs play off hopefuls Daventry
- Aylesbury Utd bt Chalfont 2-1
South One S&W - better outcomes for our local sides with home wins for Diddy 1-0 Wimborne and Godalming 3-1 v Yate - Nor Lye came back from Cinderford with a 4-0 win.
CCLP
Alton 0-1 Badshot Lea
Ash 2-0 Chess 'n Hook
Farnham 0-2 MVSCR
Frimley G 2-1 Bedfont Sp
Hanworth V 3-0 RPV
Molesey 5-0 Croydon
... and the game I diverted to on grounds of cost ...... and the fact it finished earlier to give more drinkiningining time: 8)
Hartley Wintney 3-1 Windsor
- game with 3 pens for the home side - they missed the first one - actually a very good save - scored from the next one - Windsor equalised following a long-throw - their first of the match - but from then on overplayed this route to goal and never seriously threatened from this source again.
HW led again soon after - ball knocked out from a corner saw the CB strike the ball with a purposeful outside of the foot slice - the Windsor keeper completely misread the swerving flight and fumbled it through his own legs as he moved across to the far the post.
HW were brighter on the ball and won nearly every 2nd phase. Even going down to 10 men for a clumsy, rather than malicious, challenge in midfield, didn't unduly affect them - so well organised were they around their 4-4-1 shape. They continued to have better ball retention. Windsor simply ran out of ideas and squandered possession in the final third - though the home keeper did make a few sprawling saves late on: for the most part his defence kept the visitors at long range.
Third penalty and game settler was an odd one - on the break, ball played neatly in behind the Windsor defence - the HW no 9 - who'd had their measure for a lot of the night - raced clear and just got to the ball as the keeper dashed out to clear. Ball shot straight up in the air but the last touch from the keeper was judged to have been on the player not the ball - difficult to tell at that speed/angle - but ref only issued yellow probably for dangerous play, as opposed to red for preventing a goalscoring opportunity.
HELLENIC Prem
- four games last night - wins for leaders Ardley (1-0 over Binfield) :( and Wantage who nip into 2nd ahead of HIghmoor following a 4-3 thriller at Brimscomb.
Holyport go down 2-3 at home to Nomads and HIghworth bt form side Kidlington 3-2
The defensive coaching at Windsor this season has been very poor in my opinion.
I wouldn't say any of the defenders look like poor players, but that's 19 penalties we've given away, and our keeper has been exposed countless times in one on ones. It's probably an average of 5 per game including those where he has to sprint off his line to nick the ball off the striker's toes. Despite the odd howler, he has been, by some distance, our POTS. At one stage he had saved 11 out of 13 pens, now it's 12 from 19 I believe.
I think we probably play too high a line, and don't cover adequately when the full backs push up and overlap, whatever, something needs to change in time for next season.
tbf Hartley W were set up to expose any weakness at FB - I've seen them a couple of times this season - home and away - and they are lightning down both flanks - not necessarily with conventional wingers. Last night the Windsor back four/seven/eight never got to grips with the movement of the HW 9 & 10. Indeed the tall fellah (Hollamby) playing up top on the left - recently brought in from Thatcham - was pulling the visiting back line all over the place leaving huge gaps for the wide players over on the right to run into.
His partner starting up front (Sam Argent) was also too sharp on the ball for the two CBs who stood off him - possibly with one eye on Stephens the other chap running through from midfield - he might have been the one that got the Red.
Some Windsor FC players are having a fantastic year in cups! :D
Notice one of the Slough players has got an injury that will stop him working for a while and seeing as he is self employed its going to cost him. Are players/clubs not insured for this sort of thing?? Some risk a lot of them are taking every week if not.
Yep - Adam Foulser (club captain) has done his anterior cruciate ligament and will be out for approx. 9 months, but more importantly for him he can't work for 3-6 weeks. The clubs do insure players, but the value of the policy is not high and won't cover loss of earnings. His own personal policy is designed for long-term absence, not something like this.
STFC are arranging some fund-raising activities to help him out, with a quiz night being arranged for next month. Why not put a Windsor team in?! Could even be a Maidenhead one...
