TBM
BR2 BTW Guardiola took over a championship-winning side, made one significant midfielder signing and operating in a new country following a terrific previous coach seems to be doing o.k.

Yeah, but that 1 signing was from their biggest rivals in the title race

But Bayern's side last year was pretty good anyway...

BR2 We were just talking here about how many points is a top manager worth, or indeed a different manager.
The concensus was a guess at about 10 points possibly.
Man Utd won the league last year by 11 points?
Mourinho is obviously worth a few points and I would suggest Wenger too and Pulis at Palace has shown what can be done.

Back to Moyes, even allowing for a 10 point fall because of Fergie going that would still mean that Man Utd should be in contention with the same squad (Scholes is not a relevance) as last year plus additions of £65 million of new talent.
Also decisions like giving the vastly inexperienced coaching job to Phil Neville looks like another major error of judgement.

My view is that Moyes is a good manager of a side with no stars , as was the case at Everton, but managing big egos such as exist at Man Utd requires a much different skill set which it appears (and many Man Utd fans are now saying) he doesn't have.
At Everton their more successful periods were when he used the Joe Royle "Dogs of War" approach but this lot at Man Utd don't seem to possess similar traits of working hard, giving their all and scrapping.

BTW Guardiola took over a championship-winning side, made one significant midfielder signing and operating in a new country following a terrific previous coach seems to be doing o.k.

Bayern weren't a team on the decline or losing a manager who had dominated the running of the whole club for quarter of a century.

There's no doubt that Pep has done a better job than Moyes though.

I feel the end is coming sooner rather than later, which will be a terrible shame because David Moyes is a Footballing Genius. Let's recap with a few facts from this season...

First defeat at home to West Brom since 1978

First defeat at home to Everton since 1992

First defeat at home to Newcastle since 1972

First ever defeat at home to Swansea

First league loss to Stoke since 1984

Three consecutive defeats for the first time since 2001

First ever loss to a Greek side

1/9/13 Barclays Premier League, Liverpool 1 – Man Utd 0

16/3/14 Barclays Premier League, Man Utd 0 – Liverpool 3

Poll on RedCafe: 91.6% of people want Moyes to get the sack

What a record in just 1 season. None of it is his fault though.

I think you should add Maroune Fellaini to that list. That one is up there with your Carrolls and your Downings.

Especially as he waited until his release clause had expired so he could pay a few million more. Like the banner says he is a genius.

They have over 20 years before they catch up with Liverpool in terms of abject failure in the league tbf.

Not arsed about all that. As many a Man United fan has said "Stop living in the past". Well I live in the here and now and right now my team is playing some superb football and they are not. Happy days indeed.

Did it Sanguine? I was under the impression that Liverpool haven't won the league since 89-90, two years before the formation of the PL.

Can you imagine support like yesterday at any other ground? Worst season in 20 years, being thumped at home to your biggest rivals (a proper rival, not this Swindon/Reading rubbish) and still everyone getting behind the team. And to top it off when you wake up the following morning you're still the CHAMPIONS. Must have forgotten what that feels like eh KoS and good odds you'll never get to experience that again

Agreed, we aren't rivals with Swindon, we surpassed them years ago. 8)

Aggers, what were they singing over and over at the end?

And why did they only start singing it once the game was done?

They were singing their 20 times song. I was impressed to be fair. Big improvement from the last time we beat them there and the stadium was half empty with 10 minutes left.

I was referencing United's 20-odd years without a title before Fergie's first. Football is cyclical. This news is not new.

Being (believe it or not) a less tribal football fan than most, I hope this doesn't spell 'a decade in the duldrums' as some in the media are headlining. The amount of money clubs like City, Chelsea, Bayern, PSG, Real Madrid etc now have to throw at the game, a 'superleague', or really boring domestic leagues, looks more and more likely. And that is (quite genuinely, apart from it giving me a massive hardon) why I think it would be 'good for the game' if Liverpool (or indeed Arsenal) took the title.

A season, or two or three, outside of the CL won't affect the United brand too much - the strength of Liverpool's brand is how they managed to sign the likes of Torres and Suarez despite years without a title - United don't lose their millions of Premier League titles overnight, and who knows what difference the likes of (rumoured) Kroos might make even next season.

Have to say if I was a Man UTD fan I would want Moyes to go.

Mata signing alone proves he is tactically clueless. As much as Mata is a great player, Rooney plays that rule and the frizzy hair Belgium is totally useless as well. That's about £65 million wasted by a man who has never beaten one of the top four away or won a single cup. Man Utd need to rebuild now and the Man U board would be crazy to entrust Moyes with the money to do it.

Maguire It's all very well saying "he inherited champions" but it's not like he took over one of United's real pedigree teams. Last season's championship put a gloss on an otherwise average side carried to a large extent by a superb striker who happened to avoid injury for most of the season.

This season, that striker is a shadow of his former self.

Yes, and that's almost certainly down to him not wanting to play for the manager.

Spot on. In a nutshell, he just ain't up to it.

In fairness they were quite loud for the first 10 minutes.
It was then quiet from them until with about 20 minutes to go they started singing (not supporting) the song about 20 times which is just about as dull as teams singing "(insert name of manager) (insert colours of the team) army" over and over again.
The singing was done out of sheer embarrassment realising that they had been totally outclassed, outfought and outthought.
At least we didn't hear them chanting for the thug Cantona.
