Cureton's Volley I am a huge Brian fan, but even I feel it would be the wrong time for him to come back so soon....

I'm a Brian fan and wouldn't be against him coming back, but I actually think the opposite. The time to bring him back was within a year, now that a year has passed it feels almost like time to move on.

I would add that I'm not massively in favour of managers coming back anyway, although in Brian's case I do think he has unfinished business. Pardew and Coppell both walked away, which in Coppell's case felt like a natural, but sad, end to his time here.

PistolPete Adkins cannot be judged on a team he picks without Karacan, Williams, Leigertwood, Baird or Guthrie!!

If he had had 2 or 3 of those last night it would have been different, we could easily have won and we'd all be talking about how we're locking in a play-off slot and making the charge at the right time.

He hasn't had free reign over transfers, has had TERRIBLE luck with injuries and had to play a midfield last night of who?!?!

His management record is superb, all his previous clubs rate him highly, and 6th placed Reading with no owner and no transfer capability want him out. Brilliant.

Tilehurstsouthbank What an O*fording sh*t thread! You could see from Adkins body language he was as pissed off as the fans. He usually prowls his technical area all game. Last night, second half, he just sat there looking thoroughly brassed off.

He's done that for most of the season. It's his job to stop performances like this happening over and over again.

Exactly - if he's not happy with their positioning or not shooting or their passing or whatever, why doesn't he bloody YELL at them from the touchline and tell them what they should be doing?? More likely, they were doing what he'd coached them to do and he didn't know how to change it.

And in answer to the OP, I'd still advocate that having a joint management team in McD and Copps would be a bloody fantastic duo.

So the manager needs to tell the likes of Gorkss not to pass the ball out of play for a corner to the opposition? That's assuming he hadn't coached Gorkss to do that in the first place!

And as for Bibbo coaching McCarthy to hold the ball long enough for the opposition to regain their shape and then weakly throw it out to his marked right back!

I think Southampton would rate Pocchetino (sp) higher than Adkins for a start.

Big Ern You don't become a bad manager overnight and Adkins track record shows he is a good manager.

People should lay off him as he was sold a load of BS from Anton .

It wasn't only Anton who fed him a load of bullshit. IIRC Madejski took to BBCRB just before Xmas to very publically asssure the whole of Berkshire that transfer funds would be available for Adkins to use in the January window. When Dellor pushed him he repeated it and also, IIRC, suggested that they would come jointly from AZ and himself. So even if AZ defaulted, why didn't JM deliver his share?

Because you can't much for a small amount of money?

Can you name a successful joint management team? Doesn't work imho, there needs to be a boss making the decisions not a committee.

The only reason I can see to sack Adkins is to use it as the opportunity to restart and get everyone behind the club again. But with the job required I can't see it being likely to help.

He's got a huge job on his hands. If we're bottom half come November without signs of progress, bye-bye. Until then I'd stick and hope, giving him the chance to operate in a summer window and pre-season with an accurate view of his resources and objectives. Clearly that didn't happen this year.

Even a small amount of money would have helped - might have got us Baird for the rest of the season. However, from what Adkins said after Christmas, it would appear that Madejski didn't even offer him a small amount of money.

floyd__streete Parachute payments, top 6 should be par.

Oh yeah, he spent all those parachute payments hasn't he?

:|

Parachute payments = one of the biggest wage bills in the division. Do you see everything in terms of Championship Manager? Transfer fees are only half the story. Pal.

Why hasn't anyone talked about Brian Mcdermott yet? His style of football management is doing great at Leeds. It's been over a year since we sacked him and he hardly gets a mention on HNA. Maybe he could bring back Noel Hunt and Jimmy Kebe too. We'll have a spare bed in the treatment room now JR is retiring and someone needs to keep Jem, Bridge, Williams and Morrison company.

And where is the evidence that we've got one of the biggest wage bills in the Championship?

Well the wage bill was among the top in the Championship when we went up, can't imagine it's lower now...
