Sanguine Manchester City are facing Uefa sanctions for breaching financial fair play rules which would see the club limited to a 21-man Champions League squad instead of the usual 25 players next season, Press Association Sport is reporting.

City, who are still strongly challenging the settlement offer from Uefa, are also facing a fine in the region of £49m over three years, and a cap imposed for next season to ensure there is no rise on this season's Champions League squad wage bill. The reduction in the size of the Champions League squad to 21 would potentially hit the club hardest, and City would also have to ensure that there are still eight locally-trained players in that A squad.

City have until the end of the week to reach an agreement with Uefa over the sanctions.

All seems very well done by UEFA.

What a joke fining City 50 million is like a parking fine. If UEFA were serious about fair play they would not allow them to play in the CL until there finances were in line.

I think it's plenty - if that fine counts towards accumulated losses for the FFP judgement in future seasons.

I think UEFA have taken the right approach with this - best to cajole/negotiate with these clubs, bring them into line over two or three seasons, that smash them with huge punishments that get appealed and challenged and appealed again.

If City subsequently fail the FFP test again, they can't exactly claim they've had no fair warning, and will deserve expulsion.

Yeah, they're not gonna contest that one........its more the fine but i also read if they try and appeal they risk being thrown out of the CL

Apparently they can appeal the CFCB's final decision too, to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Can see it getting that far.

Hour gone against Villa and still 0-0. Definite chance on the counter for Villa if they're patient.

Looking like a very boring last day really, especially as relegation looks all zipped up (which is rare)

He's amazing. He looks so clumsey at times yet the ball just sticks to his feet.

I'm guessing he has an absolutely massive cock that'd put even Sal Bibbo to shame

Looking at the table, I think there's realistically only going to be place movement in the positions 11-16, which are all much of a muchness

The only thing we can hope for is Man City to be losing to West Ham early on and Liverpool winning against Newcastle.......as long as City win in the end, mind.

It's possibly more that they need X homegrown players.

They're clearly taking it seriously as Dredryck Boyata has been offered an extension about a day after the judgement came down.

8, and 4 of those have to be 'local'.

Gael Clichy qualifies as a "home grown" player under the definitions that UEFA use.

It should mean "qualified to play for the Country that the football team is based in".

Cesc Fabregas counts, so expect a bid there I think.
