Stadium expansion to 59,000 finally approved.
Am I the only one who can't see why Liverpool & Everton don't pool (no pun intended) resources to get a stadium that will house, say, 90,000 and share in the way that Inter & Milan, Flamengo & Vasco and numerous others do ?
It seems to make serious financial sense in that it spreads the risk, means they shell out half the cost (each obviously).
Why does it work for others but these two are so entrenched they won't consider it ? Especially when you consider how close the two grounds are and the difficulty in getting the neighbours to allow the building work.
There isn't much in the way of ground sharing over here though. Too much history and tradition of clubs having their own ground and everything that goes with it to break with that.
I think it's partly financial as well though. I think clubs want to be able to use their own ground for other business activities and offices etc. Ground sharing possibly doesn't support that model.
Great penalty shootout last night though.
