I'm sure even Murray himself confirmed it was a loan with an option to buy via Twitter? Guess we just haven't taken up the option yet or began talks, still a while little while to go before January so wouldn't worry about it for now

Parish said: “There’s certain things in there [the loan deal] that I wouldn’t want to comment on,” said Parish.

“It’s all up in the air - but he has definitely not signed for Reading.”

What does that mean then? That whole article says oxf*rd all other than he is currently only on a loan , which we already knew. It's a nothing quote in a slow news week due to the internationals.

retro royal CRYSTAL Palace co-chairman Steve Parish has said that there is no deal in place for Glenn Murray to join Reading on a permanent deal in January.

The striker has scored three goals in six outings for the Royals.

Murray's loan now has the option of a Palace recall but he is due to stay in Berkshire until the start of January.

Palace have covered his exit by bringing in Kevin Doyle on loan from Wolves and also handing Andrew Johnson a short-term deal.

Parish said: “There’s certain things in there [the loan deal] that I wouldn’t want to comment on,” said Parish.

“It’s all up in the air - but he has definitely not signed for Reading.”

Apology accepted, Ian.

The direct quote does not say what the article attributes it to say. We know he hasn't signed for Reading yet, he's on loan. That doesn't preclude the deal to sign him in January already being in place. I've never said anything about recall options.

Apology accepted E-Po

What an utterly pointless clause. Murray Isn't named in their 25 man squad and they can't change that until January. So they can recall him but they can't play him. The whole article still sounds like Steve Parrish talking out of his arse on a slow news day or retro talking out of his arse on a slow brain day.

If that's true I wouldn't be surprised if the whole clause thing is added by the journalist based on nothing just from having not done his research properly.

I mean the "now" in the sentence doesn't make a lot of sense anyway. You surely can't change the terms of the loan after it's been made. So it could only be a poorly worded reference to a recall option activating after a certain period. Which I think may be common for certain loans. But the fact it's poorly described doesn't lend credence to it and there's no quote to substantiate it.

Yep and you wouldn't activate a buy clause in the middle of a loan ... you'd do so at the end, so it's the biggest non-story ever.

Surely it means he could be recalled 1 week from the end of his loan period before any permanent contract clause came into play?

Only if there is a recall clause .... if there was a loan-to-buy agreement in place, there wouldn't be a recall clause. Like Falcao at ManUtd.

Oi, you laid into me about suggesting he may be able to fuk off back to Palace or to another club if he's any good and they want him (back).

Still seems unclear your promise that Reading has first dibs has any truth to it.

RoyalBlue I suspect that your wait for that apology may be as long as our wait for Hammond and co to sign a proven goalscorer at Championship level on a permanent contract!

Well Roberts was our first since Goater and we've since added Pogrebnyak, so this is something of a boom time for us signing proven strikers.

Will Murray still want to stay come January? Given the goals he's scoring, I'm sure another team would snap him up if he's still surplus to requirements at Palace

The 'goals' he's scoring?
He's scored 3 in his last 8 starts.
One a massive deflection, one a massive goalkeeping error, and one a tap-in from 1 yard out.
Apart from those three goals the only thing he's done of note, in his last 8 starts, is miss a penalty.

Will they be queuing up come January? not on current form/wages.
