Jinx Awful ref - bought every dive and theatrical roll

Seemed unable or unwilling to get more than 15 yards from the halfway line

Won despite this clown
Awful awful awful
I estimated thirty wrong decisions at least

I think you're going a little over the top there.

Yep, it was 29 wrong decisions.

The first 15 was one of the worst refereeing performances I've ever seen. He genuinely looked in boro's employment.

But it must have just been incompetence given the penalty he gave us, which was also a bizarre decision.

He didn't ref the Donny match in the end, he was replaced on the day by Anthony Taylor (who subsequently gave a debateable penalty to Donny and sent off Matt Mills).

I didn't realise he was due to ref us until immediately before kick off when his name was read out. Every time I read he's going to ref us part of me just wants to curl up and die, he truly is one of the worst officials in the professional game. I have spoken on these forums many times before about him, with the sheer number of incorrect decisions he makes he invariably makes a controversial game-changing decision. Anyone remember Kitson/Nash in the PNE match in 05/06? I do, not even a free kick. Defoe at Spurs? Totally unfair. I absolutely detest this man in his officiating capacity. May his whistle rot in footballing hell.

Here's my take for Refwatch Leicester away 2013/14:-

handbags_harris
Barry the bird boggler Previously with Mr Stroud...

03 Apr 10 > Ipswich Town 2-1 Reading (Mills sent off)
06 Feb 10 > Doncaster Rovers 1-2 Reading (Mills sent off again)
25 Feb 06 > Reading 2-1 Preston North End
23 Aug 05 > Reading 3-1 Swansea City (and another sending off, although at least it was a Swansea player this time)

Well could be intesting for Matt Mills on Saturday if nothing else, suggest also running a sweep as to whether either side will finish with 11 players.

Stroud was replaced late in the highlighted game above - 2-1 win at Donny was reffed by Anthony Taylor.

Which was probably a good move because Keith Stroud is an absolute oxf*rd bellending oxf*rd, up there with the worst referees on the list. The 700 or so who are making their way up to Leicester - don't be surprised if Stroud makes a massive decision which is highly debatable.

Reading 3-1 Swansea City - clown this day, free kick central and sent Ijah Anderson off harshly.
Reading 2-1 PNE - failed to even give a free kick for Carlo Nash's Schumacher-esque challenge on Kitson.
Ipswich Town 2-1 Reading - sending off for Matt Mills's 50/50 challenge which I still believe wasn't even a free kick.

By the way, add Reading 2-1 Wigan Athletic (Sep 07) (penalty given to Wigan, rightly overruled by the linesman), Spurs 6-4 Reading (Dec 07) (Defoe's rebound when fully 4-5 yards in the area when Keane's penalty was taken)to your list.

Dross.

Surely a man of his "stature" isnt very well suited to refereeing professional sport? He hasnt exactly got a great view of the action when he's looking at it from below?

In general I think the referring standard this year has been a little better than say last season. And I genuinely try to be fair to referees as we all know what a hard job it is. BUT Stroud really was terrible on Saturday. He did not let the game flow. He seemed to give everything to Middlesbrough for the first 20 minutes or so.

And the penalty decision looked harsh.

And the east stand linesman seemed unable to keep up with play first half and missed a blatant offside that could have cost us.

West stand lino failed to see Obita's cross come off a boro player and deflect behind clear as day too.

Royal Ginger What this thread failed to mention is that he's a tiny little man.

So small he needed to pace out 12 steps at a free kick to get to ten yards

That's because at their training they have to pace out 10 yards from their own steps. In strouds case that makes 12 HTH

Many years ago there was a referee on the local circuit who was a genuine dwarf. IIRC His name was Joey and he was probably taller than Warwick Davis, but not by much. He was a really good ref and had no problem with seeing what was going on. I think Mr Stroud's problems were not height related...
In his defence though the penalty was not given by him.

I bet in almost every game I could find plenty of decisions which I disagreed with. I might not be right, and there might be entirely valid reasons why those decisions were made. It should also be remembered that refereeing is mostly about opinion, not fact, which makes deciding if something is 'wrong' quite tricky. Also referees do not penalise most offences, and if they do they get accused of not letting the game flow. It is very easy to look at things from the sideline, or in hindsight, and say the referee was 'wrong' when in fact his decision was perfectly justified at the time he made it.
Of course sometimes refs do make stupid errors as well, but then they are only human....

A very sensible and reasoned response. Not used to that kind of thing round here...

Also agreed, and as a (currently unqualified but regular) referee I am in a position to be able to better judge refereeing performances. I like to think I have always given referees a fair crack of the whip, it is possible to miss a nick off an opposition player and give the wrong ball out of play decision, or have a tug of the shirt missed as it is on your blind side. At Sunday League level and lower age groups the referee is better off on his or her own making those decisions so is likely to get some wrong, but in Stroud's case he has a linesman on each side also watching the play AND a fourth official who can bring incidents to his attention. Unfortunately for Stroud, and the majority of other referees, they have absolute authority and don't work as a team unless absolutely forced to. The number of times an infringement occurs in clear view of the linesman who doesn't flag while the referee may have an impeded view is extraordinary. They don't help themselves when they have the tools at their disposal to do so.
