Oilroyal I think it's more of a case of good business on the clubs part regardless. Nick Blackman's had the time and effort of 3 of our managers, Brian, Adkins and Clarke. A 1.2 mil fee signed when we were a prem club with the club looking to develop the player within a 12 - 18 month period to then either offer a new contract or sell at a profit. Blackman came good VERY into the plan late after much effort by MacD, Adkins and Clarke. Club did the right thing and trebled their money for their investment.

Good luck to Nick .. But we did alright at the death.

Be interested to see where Derby play him, if at all ..

I think they'll have the same problem of positioning with him as we did.

Platypuss
Brian MacDermott on 21st December "All those egos, we have to put those aside because they are not useful," McDermott told BBC Sport.
"It is never about an individual, it is all about the team, it is about everybody.

And then people react with surprise when just two days into the new transfer window opens we apparently accept an offer for Blackman.

It's a good point

Oilroyal Would I put money on Nick Blackman applying himself at Reading during his last 6 months for the betterment of the team and go on to match Vidra's goal scoring reputation? Certainly not.

Totally agree with this point. His recent on field demeanour would suggest he wasn't planning on playing like Sidwell did in the last 6 months of his contract. Therefore, he might not have scored one more goal this season. We will never know though.

But he will score against us on the 12th. Might have to put a few quid on that

Will be bloody livid if he scores against us.
We know he's shockingly one-footed so our defence should know to make sure he's forced onto his right foot

He's more likely to get one of our players sent off than score against us.

I read something somewhere that part of the sale included assurances he wouldn't feature against us on the 12th.

He said in his first Derby interview that he could well be facing Reading in their next league match.

True. They've got some good forwards already in Martin and Russell, not to mention Ince and Weimann. They've also signed Abdoul Camara who apparently plays on the wing/up front.

I expect Bent will be farmed out...don't you dare Brian!

Their fans seemed to think they have signed a new winger, Nick will not be happy!

You would have thought give his public comments about preferring to play down the middle he would've asked Derby's manager where he was looking for him to play but when he was offered more £££££ will spin the usual bland crap about playing wherever "the gaffer" wants me to play and happy just to play my part in the team wherever required, etc etc.

Still, if the money is as stated we have effectively recouped our initial outlay and his wages for the last two and a half years, for which all but six months have been not really worth it. Fair exchange no robbery Nick, and all the best for the future.

Good negotiations by Nicky Hammond to screw Derby down to, apparently, almost £4m inc. add ons.

Seriously worry for Derby if they don't go up this season though.

Do we have to pay a percentage of the fee to Sheffield United?

answering my own question

Bond 350 k
Andrew taylor loan nominal fee
paul mcshane free
Michael hector loan nominal fee
matej vydra 2.5 million for loan
orlando sa 1 million
Paulo hurtado 500k
alex Fernandez loan nominal
ola john loan maybe 250 k fee
Stephen Quinn free
ali al habsi free
= 4.8 million ish

sold
hichael hector 4 million
jem karacan released
adam federici released
alex pearce released
nick blackman 3-4 million
mikkel Anderson released
Stephen Kelly released
many other non important released

so 4.8 million spent and potentially 7-8 million sold, if we are in a healthy situation that we can reinvest the money gained from transfers which I believe we are. and we originally started the season with a supposed budget of 2 million. I believe that would mean we have around 4.2-5.2 in the pot.

which means we should be able to get a good goalkeeper 1 million (maybe jon McLaughlin burton) a lively young Am 1.5 million (Bradley Dack) an exciting young attacker 1 million (Zach clough), to make a loan permanent 250k (Andrew Taylor) and a wild punt at an old favourite 1.5 million (Alfie)

(this is just what I would like to see not genuine rumours) but personally adding these to the squad would make us a better looking squad.)

If Gunter and Hal leave at the end of the season when there contracts expire I don't think this would be the worst thing either. there wages alone are probably around 60k. this would give us some wages to use on the defence and raid the free transfer market and then spend any transfer budget on securing the rest of the defence. looking at it we will need a CB 2xRB.

this is just my opinion but I feel IF all the above happened we would be a very strong prospect for next season and we wouldn't be in the situation of high wages and big egos and to many loans.
