We desperately need a proven striker, how many goals is that from open play 2 or 3?. Said all along we should have signed someone in the same vein as Gary Alexander or a Jamie Cureton, or a Jamie Mackie. We aint going anywhere with this bunch of cheap foreign mercenaries.

5 added minutes. Not surprised since Blackett was booked for wasting time...

Blimey we held on, probably tactically speaking, Stam's finest game so far.

Apparently we can't defend and playing keep ball is a bad idea

Up to 7th although Birmingham or Sheffield Weds can overtake us if one of them wins.

But no doubt the 'get it forward' moaners will ignore the circumstances and point out that we had less possession than Barnsley today and won because of that!

Well the next league game is against division leaders Huddersfield Town on Saturday. Really hope we can turn on some sweet form for that as we'll need something special.

7th place with the only negative goal difference in the top half of the table.

Sounds like a top save by Al-Habsi at the end there, perhaps Dellor will stop using flap to describe everything he does now?

Great win.
The signs are that the team is really starting to gel. Barnsley have been flying and we did really well to bring the three points home, having played with 10 men for a large chunk of the match.
This is exactly the type of game where we have rolled over in recent seasons. Full credit to everyone.

The only worrying thing is the amount of bookings we are picking up along the way. Suspensions may start hampering our progress in the very near future - not only GMac's red card today but also all of the other players accumulating yellows with bans looming. Need to be a bit careful there.

We'll enjoy a decent 7th place for now, though. 8)

taipairoyal how many goals is that from open play 2 or 3?.

I'll help. How many before this match? Add two to that and there's your answer.

Who'd have thought that after 8 games we'd be within 3 points of an automatic promotion place?
Obviously, it's still early days but 14 points is a really decent tally from 8 games given the changes to the management and team, and given the teams we've already had to play.

It seems as though the squad is really starting to take to Stam's style of football and we're becoming hard to beat. This will only increase confidence. Any result against Huddersfield and/or Brentford will really show where our season is likely to end up. Another 2 tough games ahead against teams above us.

It seems like the saying 'you can only beat what's in front of you' is coming true!
