Royal Rother Great interview with Mourinho after the game on BBC.

It's the fault of the officials, individual mistakes by players and the fact that they are not coping well with the pressure and with the frustrations caused by unfair decisions of officials.

He singled out Ashley Young for praise in that he played with infectious enthusiasm and enjoyment that the others could learn from.

Again, a number of players will be watching that thinking "yeah, thanks a bunch Jose."

And probably also thinking - "stop making the rest of us carry that cart horse in midfield and maybe we might feel a bit less frustrated and enjoy it a bit more..."

If Jose doesn't drop Rooney himself, I reckon Zlatan will do it in training.

Stranded First feeling was no foul - after a replay from about the 10th angle, thought it was a foul.

Given that the ref has that first look, it would have been very harsh to call it a foul but as said, if it was Utd V Watford and not Watford V Utd, it would have been given.

Still shocking to let Capoue have the freedom of the penalty area to pick his spot, and whilst De Gea is a great keeper he'd be even better if he used his hands more.

I think it's borderline from all those views. I don't think anyone who isn't being partisan could feel particularly aggrieved if it was given as a foul, or if it isn't. He very clearly gets a piece of the ball, but he is going through the player a tiny bit as he does it. But I wouldn't say it's a dangerous tackle.

Disagree.

I have now seen the extra super slow. He gets the ball and his tackling leg is planted. Martial leg then goes over that and it's not the follow through. End of day it was a clean tackle.

Hoop Blah I do enjoy seeing Mourinho struggle and it does look like his abrasive methods are running out of effectiveness.

I wouldn't bet against them sorting it out, but this does make for amusing viewing at the moment.

I seriously think he's finished. And I think he knows it too.

I suspect he'll be out of Man Utd before the end of the season.

The other players will be seriously unimpressed that he has specifically singled out Shaw for criticism and Ashley Young for praise whilst suggesting most of them can't handle the pressure of playing for Man Utd. Most will be seriously unimpressed that he is persisting with Rooney in a position he is ineffective in, thus completely blunting Pogbalotelli's potential.

I appreciate that it isn't essential for players to like their manager, but it is absolutely imperative that they respect him. The Man Utd players will have lost a lot of respect for him over that. Bloody hard to get it back, if not impossible. Chelsea players lost all respect for him after the Eva Caneiro scandal, and his treatment of John Terry, and singling out Hazard amongst others.

Mourinho knew he was finished at Chelsea before he was shown the door. Jason Cundy has said he knows for a fact that Jose told the board "its over, I can't turn this around..."

The fact he has waltzed into Man Utd and repeated the mistakes is fairly astonishing but totally indicative of a guy who has lost it.

The self-hype and ego have completely overtaken good sense, pragmatism and patience.

He is finished as a top club manager but will doubtless soon be reinventing himself as an international manager. Probably have worked his way down to Qatar by the time they host the World Cup.

What a great post. Rooney will be dropped in a few games.

A great post? Writing him off after a few games into this season?

He guided Chelsea to 3rd in his 1st season back. Then the following season we were champions. Far too early to make a judgement.

My first reaction on reading that was like oxf*rd Jose would admit that to himself, let alone anyone else.

Where did they finish the season before? Did he do better in the cups?

We won the league cup in 14/15 as well as the league. Finished 3rd in the season prior to Jose coming back.

Sorry Kes, I was just trying to see how much of a positive effect he'd had in steering you to 3rd (as you put it) as it sounded like he'd done well to just achieve that.

I've checked for myself now and it looks like he just about maintained the success of the previous season...

2012-13 under Benitez (from November) : 3rd in the League, FA Cup Semi Final, League Cup Semi-Final, Champions League Group Stages, UEFA Cup Winners
2013-14 under Mourinho: 3rd in the League, FA Cup last 16, League Cup Quarter-Final, Champions League Group Semi-Final

I'd say Mourinho clearly loses out to Benitez in comparison as it was Di Matteo who got them knocked out the Champions League wasn't it? Fair play to Jose for getting to the Champions League semi-final though. I wouldn't say his impact in that first season suggests he's still got the magic touch he clearly had 10 years ago though.

Great post.

He lost the respect of everyone at Inter and Real as well for acting like he was bigger than the club and beyond reproach. He's running out of clubs big enough for his ego that would be prepared to put up with his bullshit.

Thanks. And yep, although that was more with the boardroom bods wasn't it? It's the fact that his ego is so out of control that just a few weeks into the job he thinks he can go public with what he used to keep totally within the confines of the dressing room that I find so weird.

His relationship with his players was always so strong when he was successful yet now he seems hell bent on destroying that all over again, having learned nothing from doing something similar at Chelsea.

Feels like he actually believes it's all about him. He is going to have to do a massive climb down with the players to resolve this and I really don't think he's got that in him.

(Cue a long unbeaten run...) 8)

The fans turned against him at Inter despite winning the title and Champions League because of boring football and a fcuk you attitude towards people within the club.

I think he lost it with the Real fans after parking the bus at the Neu Camp and getting hammered. To the fans, parking the bus was a sign of weakness in the face of their biggest rival.

But yeah, he has a fine habit of biting the hand that feeds him.
