Hendo Nope, no surprises.

Legg maybe? But I guess the club rate Southwood & Ward higher.

Cam Green and Khalid Simmo perhaps. But not really.

Biggest surprise is how Stevens appears to have aged 30 years in his time here.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Ward out the door too this summer. Has another year on his contract though.

hasn't Simmo made a few U23 appearances on the bench? That did surprise me a little.

Fair chance Ward will go I think - but he's probably good enough to ask for a small fee for him. Shame he has been dropped by FGR though

NewCorkSeth Jaakkola did better than any of us expected him to do. He was a cheap punt who more than paid his fee and wages during a time we needed any little break we could get. A lot of the saves he made helped us survive this season. Wish him the best.

He was pretty dreadful when I saw him at Derby. Just made appalling decision after decision.

Mmm. As I see it, assuming those out on loan don't come back, we have a 1st team squad of 15 currently with back up from the U23.

Baldock
Barrow
Blackett
Bodvarsson
Gunter
Kelly
McCleary
Meite
L Moore
Obita
Richards
Rinomhota
Swift
Walker
Yiadom

Given there's talk of Kelly, Meite, Barrow, Moore, Swift et al possibly being sold to "balance the FFP books", we're putting a lot of faith in the U23.

Very early days of course, and much can happen before the window closes 1st week of August, But thought it worth mentioning this.

Sorry, should have promoted Loader from the U23's really.

NewCorkSeth Anyone know what Xabi Alonso said about tackling?

Started off by saying that Carrick and older Scholes would have had better careers if the English weren't so obsessed with blood-and-thunder tackling, then this:

"I don't think tackling is a quality. It is a recurso, something you have to resort to, not a characteristic of your game. At Liverpool I used to read the matchday programme and you'd read an interview with a lad from the youth team. They'd ask: age, heroes, strong points, etc. He'd reply: 'Shooting and tackling'. I can't get into my head that football development would educate tackling as a quality, something to learn, to teach, a characteristic of your play. How can that be a way of seeing the game? I just don't understand football in those terms. Tackling is a [last] resort, and you will need it, but it isn't a quality to aspire to, a definition. It's hard to change because it's so rooted in the English football culture, but I don't understand it."

That was back when Spanish players were cool, but now English players are cool so who cares.

Maybe mr Alonso never got to see Spanish defenders such as Gentile when he was growing up. Spanish defenders in the late 70's and 80's were some of the most cynical I ever saw.

Leaving aside the obvious brain fart, it's clear that Alonso was looking at things with very rose tinted glasses. I mean Sergio Ramos for goodness' sake. Camacho, Nadal, the Butcher of Bilbao...

Gomes has talked of bringing in up to 7 players and doubt we’ll sell more than 1, maybe 2

Hoping that the main starters + bench will be kept for next season excluding the 4 loans, here’s my take on where I think we are and the players we might be looking to work with, move on and the recruitment needed.

OOC Players
Anssi Jaakkola - released
John O'Shea - released
Danzell Gravenberch - released
Joey van den Berg - released
Adrian Popa - released
Paul McShane - released
Callum Harriott - released
Vito Mannone - current loan/will be moved on 2020
Sone Aluko - current loan/will be moved on 2020

Players for sale:
David Meyler - will look to sell £600K (undisclosed)
Marc McNulty - will look to sell £1.6m + (undisclosed)
Sam Walker - will look to sell £400K (undisclosed)
Sam Baldock - will look to sell £2.2m (undisclosed)
Liam Kelly - will look to sell £1.5m (undisclosed)
Andrija Novakovich - will look to sell £1m (undisclosed)
Jón Daði Böðvarsson - will look to sell £2m (undisclosed)
Tyler Blackett - maybe sold £2m (undisclosed)
Josh Barrett - maybe sold £700K (undisclosed)
Darren Sidoel - maybe released or sold for small fee
The above could potentially raise £12.3m

Academy players we will need to step up for next season
Omar Richards
Tennai Watson
Tom Holmes
Tom McIntyre
Gabriel Osho
Teddy Howe
Ryan East

Players too good /would be silly to move on
Chris Gunter - experienced and dependable back up - should not sell
Garath McCleary - experienced and dependable back up - should not sell

Permanent or loan signings needed
experienced GK
experienced CD
DM
CM
experienced FW
Maybe a new LB (come Jordan let's have you back please)

Those prices look extremely optimistic - we won't get anything for Meyler, McNulty if he goes to Scotland £500k max, Baldock no more than £1m

Maybe so, but it won’t dent the income by much if we let Meyler go for £200K and Hibs are desperate to sign our Scottish international McNulty after scoring 7 goals in 15 apps for them. He’s worth over £1.5 I would think. Baldock playing in a 442 is of value to any team

Everyone knows we are desperate to sell and happy to loan out players to reduce the wage bill, we're more likely to give McNulty away for free than get £1.5m for him. Hibs probably haven't spent that much in the last 5 windows combined

Agree with who we should sell but no one is paying £1.5 million for Kelly or £2.2 million for Baldock. No chance we will get £1.6 million for McNulty or £2 million for Blackett. We will be lucky to get £1 million for Bodvarsson and a bag of crisps for Meyler.

Can’t see the club writing £1m off for a striker who scored 28 in 51 in league 2, and 7 in 15 in the Scottish prem and letting him go for free. I know both leagues are shite, but find me a goal scorer at his leve in this transfer window with that goal scoring record who goes on a free and I’ll humbly agree with you. Kelly will go for decent money so will baldock. but we'll never know because it will be undisclosed.

McNulty certainly won’t go for free but we will struggle to get all our money back on him. I cannot see a Championship side coming in for Kelly. He is destined for League One. As a comparison Derby only paid us £300,000 for George Evans. If we get £500,000 for Kelly it’s a decent result.
Baldock might fetch a million. ....if we are lucky.

We are both guessing and as you say the fee won’t be disclosed so we will never know. Interesting thought on Kelly going to Europe. It just might suit him.
