I was living in London when he scored that goal and a load of Scottish lads came into the bar I worked in (one claiming to be his brother) and I remember them saying he always tries those shots. Hit and hope player rather than than someone like Baker who has a long distance shot in his pocket.

For all we know we have offered him a one year contact at £1500 pw which would not break the bank and CM is an area where we are very short of experience. Who knows he might regain some form.

I would 100% agree but for whatever reason we didn't and so we are where we are. I can only think we expected Baker back - but that now looks unlikely.

Because we've been desperately trying to trim the squad all summer, we still need several players in key areas, we've got very little money to play with, and we're being told that some of that money might be wasted on someone who is "good for back-up and twenty minutes".

A lot of the fat trimming isn’t all about quality either, it’s about wages. We’re trying to fend of FFP punishments and still remain competitive. Too many seem to be getting blurry eyed wondering why a Kelly on 20k a week goes and maybe an Adam at 10k a week arrives. Gourlay absolutely f**ked us. We’re lucky we aren’t the third League One club this season to be starting with minus 12 points!
