Classy guy. Shame it didn't quite work out for him.

+1 did we really expect anything different from Jose!! Its a sad day to see him leave, the guy was pure class and i wish him all the best for the future.
He really didn't do to much wrong, and did a lot of good things, however football is fine margins and the last month really went against him and in this cut throat industry that was the end.

Also a +1 from me.

I think it is probably the right decision but Gomes has been classy throughout and I wish him well for the future.

His fatal flaw being.....Reading is not a city.

Cannot help feeling totally bemused with yet another manager of ours sacked....what spoilt brats we’ve become....but that’s the game these days I guess :|

This sacking feels wrong - unlike with Stam and Clement when I think we got the timing right as was proved by us surviving both seasons.

I just hope the people at the top have someone decent lined up.

I cannot remember a better expressed sentiment than that of Jose. As a man, pure class and seemingly genuine to boot. That in itself, makes me sad he couldn't make it work as he is so amiable. No idea what is next but am I wrong for thinking Jose should be well rewarded for his time here?

I'm strangely ambivalent about the whole thing. With Stam, Brian and Atkins I had strong opinions but with Jose I just think it was a bizarre appointment in the first place and so never really bought into it. Lovely guy, not his fault he was approached by Reading and appointed to a job where he almost certain to fail. :|

It's a real shame such a genuinely nice bloke just isn't very good at what he wants to do. Wish him success in his next endeavour.

Yeah I get that too. I really feel gutted he couldn't make it happen. Be nice for the good guy to actually win.

For the avoidance of doubt, Gomes was a resounding success, forget win percentages and all that malarky, history will confirm that Reading FC avoided relegation in the 2018/2019 season, a feat few thought possible on the 22nd December 2018.

For that alone Jose is owed a huge debt of gratitude,

Have any of the players made any comment on social media? All seems oddly quiet - was he not as popular behind these scenes as we all think?
