Sutekh Seems Charlie Adam is in discussions with Reading over a new deal for next season. Whether it actually turns up anything mutually agreeable remains to be seen of course. Personally wouldn’t be adverse to him staying in a player/coach role as does provide good experience and cover for what may well turn out to be a fairly youthful and inexperienced midfield next season.

Waste of a wage and the exact opposite of what we need. We are not a retirement home, we need to invest in youth. We also don't need any more coaches.

Youth is all very well but you do need experience and next season if Swift goes, who is still a young player anyway, the midfield may well comprise just Ejaria, Rinomhota, Olise and Holsgrove which while talented still has a lot of learning to do. An older player like Adam (or another) would at least help their game along as well as give a valuable playing option when needed.

Adam has hardly played this season. I can’t see the point of keeping him on as a player

His legs have gone, the Championship is far beyond him now. He has had a good career and probably has something left to offer but way lower down the Leagues or up in Scotland perhaps.

Thought he was a terrible signing to make but his performance has actually been good.

His total lack of mobility and therefore reliance on long pings and lack of defensive shape is a problem though, so I wouldn't be keen on him getting much pitch time. In which case I struggle to see the point.

But be happy enough if he's transitioning to coach as he seems reasonably smart, has had to work quite hard to achieve what he has and has a wide breadth of experience.

Off top of my head, I expect us to release/lose:

Miazga
Moore
Pele
Swift
Blackett
Baldock
Gunter
Masika
Note
Adam
Walker
Barrow
McCleary
Obita (maybe)
Missed anyone? I feel like I'm one loanee short

That leaves
GK: Rafael, Southwood, Anderson, CBC. Absolutely fine
RB: Yiadom, Osho, Araruna. Could improve, but not priority
CB: Morrison, McIntyre, Osho. Priority to strengthen
LB: Richards, maybe Obita. Ideally would strengthen
CM: Rinomhota, Araruna, Holsgrove? Absolute priority to strengthen
AM: Ejaria, Olise. Could improve but not priority
Wingers: Meite. Priority to strengthen
ST: Joao, Puscas. Could do with an extra option.

A big clearout is appealing, but we'd have some serious transfer business to do on the cheap. We'd need:
1 CB
2 CMs
2 wingers
Ideally you'd also want:
1 extra LB option
1 extra striking option
1 attacking mid option.

So 8 signings overall. Have I missed any academy prospects? Nevers?

We will look to get rid of McNulty and Aluko too

Ah yes, McNulty and Aluko. Our squad is overinflated with so much rubbish I can't keep track. I hope we can shift McNulty north of the border. Will anybody take Aluko? Not in our league. And League 1 clubs can't compete with our bumper contract. He'll stay, despite our best efforts.

We are crying out for a DM as top priority IMO, then a wide attacking midfielder. We then need cover at FB and CB.

Shifting all three of Barrow, Aluko and Baldock, though desirable, won't happen. I think Baldock still has something to offer and maybe Barrow if his head is right, big IF though. I also don't think we'll lose both Swift and Moore. Of the two, I'd rather keep Swift but I think he's the more expendable of the two.

Moore and Swift are both gone. How can you think any differently given our financial status and the fact neither player wants to be at the club. Not rocket science.

Not that simple is it? We've wanted rid of Aluko and Barrow for over a year and they're still here. Has anyone actually shown any interest in Moore recently? He's been poor for 2 seasons and on an absolute wedge. Who's going to buy him?

Think the market is pretty much dead right now, it will be until the domestic season is done I'd imagine. Soon as it does the vultures will circle for Swift and Moore who know we need to sell and also know they can get them on the cheap due to COVID driving down transfer fees. Would bet my life on Swift and Moore going.

Can you be sure the vultures will be circling for Moore when he's been poor for 2 years and on £35,000 a week? Every other club will be worse off financially because of Covid. Unless he's prepared to take a £15-20,000 a week cut, we will struggle to shift him.

Moore’s deal doesn’t run out until 2023 either.

Reckon our money might run out before 2023 if we don't see people like him and Swift. We will sell him for a few million cheaper than he is probably worth just to get him off the wage bill. Someone will come in for him, absolutely sure of it.

Also on the departed list are Loader, Mannone and Popa and about 9 of the U23 squad

Don’t see anyone taking Baldock off our hands unfortunately

Sam Smith up front? Think we still have Watson as a right back option for the time being. Could see both of them being released too tbh. Tom Holmes as another CB option too

Can’t see it, His wages will be a problem. An awful signing.
