Joe Pigott said it had been the “toughest decision” of his career after he decided not to sign a new contract with Wimbledon. We thank
@piggy_35 for his big contribution in a Dons shirt and every success in the future

So, looks like he is available on a free. A question/answer posed on Twitter:

@GabSutton
Question: where do you see Joe fitting in? Reading, Birmingham or staying in L1?

@slough_womble
Answer: Would happily have Joe Pigott at #BCFC as a mobile alternative to Lukas Jutkiewicz, would mean Sam Cosgrove becomes available. #ReadingFC would have him as a clear back-up to Lucas João which might be an awkward sell, despite the latter's occasional injury battles. Probably not easy to sell a 27-year-old the role of back-up. Would go after someone younger who would accept a more peripheral role as part of their development.

Can see him going to Birmingham and then really schooling us.

Pigott is a genuine back-up for Joao. He would enable us to stick with Plan A when the inevitable injury occurs

Could maybe try the old 1 season as back up, next season as top dog when Joao moves on trick.

And point to Joao's injury record and woeful end of season form and say good chance you'll get an opportunity too.

I want Jutkiewicz. Easily one of the best strikers in the division and wasted at one of the worst clubs in the division

If Joao is here next season. There's a bit of wheeling and dealing to be done yet.

Word from an Ipswich pal is that he turned down Championship interested in favour of Ipswich, presumably about playing time.

Hard to see him getting much playing time with us given Puscas and Joao, so could see him having chosen them over us if we were still interested.

Wombles are upset he's chosen to go to Ipswich when he could have got L1 football with them. But pretty easy to see he'll be at the other end of the table with a chance to go up rather than down.

I think after spending quite a bit on McNulty I am happy to miss out on Piggott, I have been put off lower league strikers. Would much prefer we look at a cheap loan from a Premier League side in, a young lad happy to learn and get game time as and when.

Clearly it's not as he has decided to go to a team in the division below.
