I'm not sure the men's PL has got it right either. There's still a massive gulf between the richest clubs and the also rans in terms of ability to sign players etc.
Dare I say it, the MLS model might work better.
As the BT commentary team pointed out. It's perhaps not a case of Reading Women going backwards, rather they have stood still in terms of quality of signings/squads whereas the big clubs have invested more and more money and therefore are pulling away. They felt Reading had to invest more in players but I'm not sure they are in a position to do so,
