genome Alan Nixon is saying we cannot pay agents. If that's true, we're oxf*rd.

Considering Nixon is full of shite and blocks anyone who dares point out the regular mistakes he makes, I wouldn’t worry too much…

Nixon is a helmet. People treat him like a football oracle. No journo has the inside scoop at every club, and yet he has an answer for everything and blocks you if you dare point out how unreliable he is. Typical Sun newspaper...

Snowflake Royal Does the Academy have internal squad numbers, because it would be a surprise if he got the prestigious 7 shirt for the first team, given his sole appearance is 20 minutes v Luton? Although everyone seems to want squad numbers these days rather than the traditional ones. McIntyre was 7 last season ffs. If he's genuinely taking that shirt it means Tom is changing...

Descriptions seems to suggest he's a left winger as well. Tbh, I can't say I remember him from the game.

Obviously promising at 19, formerly of Chelsea's Academy.

Any of our youth experts seen much of him and able to offer much info?

He's very exciting. I prefer Camara but Scott is a live wire. Only seen him play a couple of times but he's looked good in all of them.

Academy doesn't have squad numbers fwiw. Old-style 1-11 on match days rather than fixed individual numbers. They do get assigned very high numbers and that goes right down the age groups (not sure how far), but they don't wear them because they're three-digit - I think it's just for identifying whose training kit is whose.

Halilovic was 7 last season so the number is available, perhaps Scott requested is as part of the deal - as we can't offer money any incentive will do

McIntyre has been 5 the past couple of seasons

Would make a bit of sense given that the number is free. I'm all for cost-free incentives!

Similar to Tom Holmes, I understand that talks are progressing well with youngster Mamadi Camara ahead of extending his stay in Berkshire.

A lot of others have gone quiet in recent times which is a bit concerning seen as their contracts expire in less than 3 weeks time, I'd have hoped someone would have signed on the dotted line by now.

Yeah this is good news. Thought he’d be off, be delighted if we could keep hold of him

Players will return from holidays this week, contracts and moves will start to ramp up in the coming days across all clubs.

A summary from the @jonathanl50 piece above:

- Yiadom and Holmes "expected" to sign new deals this week
- #readingfc "hopeful" of a new deal for Azeez
- Hoilett now offered a contract
- Laurent still in talks
- Rino hasn't decided
- Morro won't be offered a contract

Looks like Yiadom is going to be signing a new deal, good news. There is no way in hell we'd be able to get any better in had he left.

It’s a big IF but if all those players sign new contracts and we can offload Moore and Puscas we could assemble a decent squad. I’d like to see T Ince return, 2 new young LBs, another young RB, a new young CB and possibly Austin to replace Puscas. The jury’s out on our new proposed GK as he should be given a chance.

Agree with that. Very key position. Would imagine he'll be offered the armband as well.

Agree with that in the main. I just think it's going to take too much for all that to happen and I still think we'd definitely need a creative player in the midfield to replace Swift.

With those players signing new deals and with the potential to use up to 5 loans, we should be able to get a competitive squad together this season. Life would be incredibly easier if we were to move on Puscas and Moore though and be able to reinvest the money from any Joao (and other sales) deal, although I can't see it being as straightforward as that.

Azeez is the one for me - absolute quality player in the making, just needs the games and injury free. Get him under contract, good season and there is £15million right there.

All positive really - Laurent must be inclined to stay if he remains in talks - could be an option for captain if he does. Rino is slightly worrying but if one stays and the other goes, then probably better to keep Laurent.

Understand Morro not being kept on, probably got a year or two left at L1 level but with Dann staying no point have 2 older CBs. Glad we have put something in front of Hoilett as think he can still be a good option and will want to perform well ahead of his only chance of a World Cup appearance.

If there isn't a deadline to get a decision from Laurent/Rino then there should be - ideally end of the week but no later than when the current deal runs out on the 30th.

To be fair I'm not majorly concerned if Rino was to leave. It would be a blow but he spent most of last season on and off the treatment table for varying lengths of time and we (just) managed to get by without him and it may also open up an opportunity to give either McIntyre or Tetek a chance in the midfield who I think might be ready to step up to this level in that role.

Hoilett I'm pleased about in general, good experience down that side and chipped in with some important contributions last season. Particularly if Joao leaves, we won't be getting players who are going to hit 20+ goals a season (or that kind of rate like Joao did last season) so it's important we can keep and recruit players who are capable of chipping in with 6-10 goal involvements over the course of the season. It leaves us less reliant on certain individuals (like Joao and Swift) and it may do enough to help us keep our heads above water.
