NathStPaul It would but I'm not sure anything can come close to the best period in our clubs history.

Truth is we just don't know where we are yet, I'm reserving judgement until the eve of our first fixture.

Do you see us signing 8-9 players before the end of July? It's looking unlikely. Probably be playing the under 18s in our first game at this rate.

Close to that. Sure, why not? The squad is pretty bare and we're expecting to sign 2 shortly.

Assuming the following:

Lumley and Holmes are done and we start with the current retained list including those with an offer, then as of today our first XI on 30th July could look something like:

Lumley

Holmes
Dann
Moore

McIntyre
Tetek

Azeez
Ejaria
Meite

Joao
Puscas

That isn't hideous - it ain't great either but as a first XI, staying up would be doable.

If we can add 6 to that, Yiadom may be one, and use the likes of Camara, Dorsett and Clarke as back-ups, we could have an OK squad.

Gone with 3-5-2 (or 3-2-3-2) as we have no full backs.

Pretty threadbare when the injuries start to hit I would imagine.

Naturally - that's where we need say 6 more minimum to either push some of those down to the bench or start there.

We'll also have players like Dorsett, who has 40 games under his belt following an excellent loan as well as those like Scott, Abrefa, Camara who will be knocking on the door a bit this season,

Good news, although I wish it had been Rino or Laurent. Anyway, onwards and hopefully upwards 1 down and about another 8 to go.

Interesting* that he has signed for 3 years.

Does that put to bed that we can only offer 1 year deal this summer or that we can only offer longer deals to existing players?

We now have four senior centre backs for next season under contract. Obvs this includes Moore. Not sure what the situation is with Dorsett. Jnr thinks he is under contract with us.

Good that he has signed no doubts

Confuses me this thing about existing players allowed to sign longer

Surely once their contract is up they are in the same position as an external player?

There is nothing specified in the agreement restricting us to 1 year contracts.
It’s possible this was different last summer, which was before the agreement was in place.
It’s also possible that because we’re on target to be back in budget we’ve had some restrictions relaxed.

Just checked
The transfer embargo we were under last summer means we could only add new players for one season.
The agreed decision allows us to extend contracts of players subject to being within budget and there is no specific limit on length of contract

This was being circulated on Twitter earlier in the week:

CLUB LIST OF REGISTERED PLAYERS
AS AT 21st May 2022

https://www.efl.com/clubs-and-competiti ... d-numbers/

Page 35 is Reading

Dorsett is on the list and does not have an (o) ...

From the Key:

(o) indicates players who are under
the age of 24 years, whose current
contracts expire on 30th June 2022 and
to whom the club has made an offer of
re-engagement

(Out of contract players aged 24 and over are not on this list)

Therefore it looks like Dorsett is under contract

I think it bodes well existing players signing new contracts. I am sure that Yids would have had other offers and the fact that he chose to stay means that he’s confident about the future of the club. I shall have a can of 1664 tonight to celebrate.

Excellent to get Yiadom to stay, must have had other offers you'd think.

Have seen a couple of tweets from Stoke fans who think we’re crying ourselves to sleep over Laurent. Tbf the majority are pleased that they’re signing someone we rate very highly.

Well this is a good day in our pre season. I stand by my statement that survival next season would be a massive achievement, but a step in the right direction. The types of characters we want around for sure.
