Winston Biscuit
From Despair To Where? So St Etienne, nicknamed Les Verts (The Greens), have a player called Etienne Green.

yeah! Ive mentioned it before as I find it such a cool thing. He was actually named after Saint-Etienne and now plays for them. We need to find a family called The Blue&Whites and get them to name their baby Ding

Not at that level but the late great John White played for Spurs (aka Lillywhites).

If anyone was wondering he’s 6’4” keeper born in Colchester to an English father and French mother. Currently also plays for England u21s.

For the record I think Mark Robins played for Bristol City at some point, there’s probably others with a one name “match” down the years, I’d be surprised if Crewe ladies ever have an Alexandra Railwayman on their books though and that’s the most likely match I can currently think of over here.

Winston Biscuit Saint-Etienne in a mess at the bottom of French 2nd div. Having come down from the top division last season, then got in a financial mess, started this season on minus points and they are now bottom of Ligue 2. Also 4 teams are going down from Ligue 2 this season (also 4 down from Ligue 1) as they try and cut down the number of teams in the french divisions

Their goalkeeper is Etienne Green, born in Colchester and a year or so ago talked up as being one of the better young goalkeepers to keep an eye on. made it into the England under 21 squad last year.

Obvious “St Etienne in a bad way” tap-in missed there Winst!

That’s not his real name sadly it’s actually Emerson Aparecido Leite de Souza Junior.

The “Royal” is a nickname he picked up when he was young as apparently his uncle thought that he resembled the mascot of the Royal gelatin dessert. So as it’s a nickname it’s probably even more appropriate that he signs for Reading.

I’ll let you decide if there’s resemblance.

I guess there's an Argyle Pilgrim just waiting to be born somewhere. Plymouth had better get its scouts ready.

On a slightly different but still name related topic - Marx Lenin is a young brazilian player who played on the left wing for Flamengo and then decided to go try his luck at Akton Togliatti in Russia!

I wonder if a name could end up dictating your life path to a degree. you know, like, the pressure of it or the expectation associated with it means you either investigate something you wouldn't have or maybe just feel its easier to do what people expect. weird.

We went to great lengths to give our son a name that (knowing what kids are like for taking the piss) would be ordinary and unlikely to cause him angst or to be shortened.

We came up with Ian but he either gets called just "I" pronounced ee or" Ipot".
I was influenced by being quite a fan of Ian St John and fortunately our boy has turned out to be reasonably normal.
Why do some parents not think it through and saddle their child with a name that might cause unnecessary grief?

I was having ,similar discussion with our sons Lucifer and Mephistopheles just the other day.

For some reason they get called Lucy and Meth Head all the time. Beats me why.
