At the other end Schalke have found their inner Preston North End, their 0-0 at Union today is their 4th in a row since the 6-1 home defeat to Leipzig.

Winston Biscuit Wouldn't be surprised if he quits La Liga with the amount of grief he gets every away game

Why does he get so much abuse? Is it the age old adage of Spaniards being a bit racist?

Spanish Grand Prix x Lewis Hamilton for example.

Previous Spain manager Del Bosque was openly racist and by his own admission
One particular interview quoted him saying that 90% of players were of the same mind

Some Atletico fans were caught shouting racist abuse at him, there was an investigation into it and La Liga ended up saying they would do nothing, then monkey chants were made at him, La Liga did the same, during this he was speaking out saying that it should not be acceptable but the Spanish football authorities kept dismissing these incidents.

At one point an anti racism campaign group tried to take legal action and the Madrid Prosecutor's Office said that "while unpleasant and disrespectful, the racist chanting was done in the context of a fiercely contested football match and so would not constitute a crime", and that firmly opened the door for knuckleheads to feel supported in shouting racist things at football

City and Bayern heavy favourites for the Champions League - I really like Napoli's price at 11/1. They have been pretty unstoppable this season, winning 25 of their 30 games, and will surely have enough for Eintracht Frankfurt in R16. Seven wins in a row again in Serie A, after Inter broke a streak of ten on the bounce - they lead the league by 15 points.

At the other end of Serie A, Cremonsese remain winless after 22 games - and yet also find themselves in the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia.

Barca eight points clear in La Liga. Another home win, 2-0 over Cadiz, another clean sheet, which means that they still haven't conceded a league goal in open play at the Nou Camp this season (11 games, and now over 1,000 minutes, since Villereal's second goal on the final day of last season).

PSG come from 3-2 down to win 4-3 with goals in the 87th & 95th minute. so many late winners this season

At least with their recent poor form the chasing pack are right behind them in the league and next weekend they play away at 2nd place Marseille

A really exciting game with both teams hell bent on attacking play with Lille playing their part.
Although he didn't do much during the game it was Messi's free kick in added time that produced the dramatic finale.

Also Mbappe only came on as sub but still scored 2 exquisite goals.
Monaco and Marseille are close up so, as in Germany and England, it is very competitive for that top spot when, in many other seasons, it isn't.

maybe its my imagination but many european leagues seem closer at the top than in previous seasons

Benfica won late last night which would have really made things interesting at the top of the Portuguese league. Even with them winning you still have top place only 7 points ahead of 3rd placed Braga. Not many points get dropped at the top of the Portuguese league but they still all have each other to play

Head of La Liga says Laporta (President of Barcelona) should step down over the allegations.

he was also asked whether Barcelona's situation was more serious than Juventus and replied 'for now I would say that Juventus is more serious as they have been sentenced, but I see indications that in the future its more serious in Barca'

they are now up to 33 alleged payments having been made to the bloke who oversaw referees

I just cannot see a scenario where Barca get the Juventus treatment, they are too crucial to the the Spanish game in terms of revenue. Could easily see a situation where they are docked point or have titles taken away.

Elche then have 3 players sent off and let 3 goals in

Interesting tweet on the loss of respect for match officials in Spain since this Barca story came out. Clubs now being open in their criticism of them, and being pretty threatening with it too
