Hound
Stranded As well as the Walcott update, your man Witcoop confirms we are still after Weir, Forini and Stansfield - unlikely to get all 3 due to other interest but seeing who they can get.

Good news. 2 of those 4 would be good; anything more a bonus

Guess that confirms he's been training with us.

Potentially a lucky escape there then, if he had an underlying issue.

From Despair To Where?
Stranded We should have a look at who is on the books of Wassermann and see who is still available...

Ross Barclay
Phil Jones
Luke Amos
Olamide Shodipu
Nick Blackman.....

I can quite imagine the reception on here if Nick Blackman was re-signed, esp. at the age of 33 (34 in November).

And after he's not been at a club since 2021.

I see Barkley has opted for the soft option of a Premier League relegation struggle.

Do we really desperately need anyone else now given that so many of the academy lads have shown they can contribute to the team? I guess maybe one more winger/CAM?

Given the injury problems that this club has to endure season after season, yes they do need as many options and as much cover as possible.

Regardless of the academy signings are still necessary, particularly some experienced players to help the youngsters through. Signings are also a fallback if some can't step up

Yes the academy lads can step up but Tuesday is a benchmark for what they can achieve, not what we should expect from them.

Yep minimum 2 or 3 more - Academy lads have shown they can step up - I would be happy with Weir, Stansfield and Walcott but if something comes up unexpectedly i.e. someone leaving on a free or a Savage style deal, then if in budget would hope the club persue it.

Left back
Attacking mid
Striker (ideally with pace)

I feel we could afford to lose a CB (selling either of the Toms perhaps). And that if we could get rid of Ejaria it would be ideal.

Walcott would fulfill both the AM and STR options so we may only need two more in, ideally not loans.

I'd go with this, plus any opportunities that are simply too good to turn down (e.g., Walcott)

This.

I don't think they will keep that level up. If they could then we won't be holding onto them for long.

Unless we can get another Savage style deal out of a PL club then loans are probably the only way we can get higher quality young players in who fit our style.
