Winston Biscuit Straight red for Bellingham yesterday. Spanish telly did its lipreading thing and claim he was arguing with the ref and he said 'I am talking to you with respect....f*ck off'

But also said when the players were arguing after he showed the red card, the ref said to Modrid 'he told me 'f*ck you''

Referee is withdrawn from UEFA duties whilst he's under investigation for being involved with Talentus Sports, a consultancy and sports management company that reportedly has ties with major football institutions, including LaLiga, UEFA, the RFEF itself. And also tie ups with clubs like Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Aston Villa, and PSG.

https://sports.yahoo.com/rfef-launch-investigation-referee-following-172000466.html

There's also a video from a user on Twitter where the ref is alleged to have had a mural of Lionel Messi removed from his garden today.

In Serie B, if the team in 3rd place is 14 points or more ahead of the team in 4th place, then they are automatically promoted and the play offs are cancelled.

Spezia in 3rd place are currently 9 points ahead of 4th placed Cremonese.

Out of interest has any 3rd placed team in the FL ever finished 14 points or more ahead of 4th place since play offs were introduced back in the late 80s? If that did ever happen then I would absolutely agree with the Italian approach.

the points gap needed for the 3rd placed team to go up automatically has changed over the years so it has happened. in 06-07 Genoa finished 10 points ahead of 4th and so no play offs took place.

the play offs only came into Italian football in 03-04 but that was a Serie B team playing against a Serie A team.

Promotion eh. Who wants it?

1 point separates the top five in Segunda Division.
Just six points separate the top nine in 2 Bundesliga, with Koln top on 40 points, and Nurnberg ninth on 34.

Serie B looks a bit more cut and dry. Sassuolo well clear at the top. Spezia have a nine point cushion in third over Cremonsese. Sandwiched between them in second place are Pisa SC. Pisa have been promoted to Serie A five times, but not since 1991 - they have never stayed for more than two seasons. Current manager is Filippo Inzaghi.

Cologne being top also needs to be taken into the context that they were banned from signing players up until the current window - they lost a number of players in the summer following relegation and could only replace them with players from their Academy.

They were able to, and did sign players again in January, so are comfortable favourites to get promoted now.

Louis Buffon, a 17 year old left winger and son of goalkeeping legend Gianluigi, called up into the Czech Republic U18 setup. Louis eligible via his grandmother on his Mum's side, he plays his football for Pisa's youth teams.

Udinese got a penalty in their match at Lecce.

Their captain, Florian Thauvin is supposed to take it, but Lorenzo Lucca grabs the ball.

Thauvin tries to stop him from shooting. Then the entire team try to stop him from taking the penalty.

Lucca takes it anyway and scores. No one celebrates and he gets subbed off.

Udinese win 1-0.

Winston Biscuit Galatasaray Vs Fenerbahce coming up on Monday. Galatasaray are still undefeated so far in the league this season

Fenerbahce got 99 points in the league last season and came second to Galatasaray (102). Similar scenes very possible this time around, albeit they can only equal their points record of 102, as the league as reduced in size this season to 36 games.

Galatasaray won 19 of their last 20 last season, which means they have now won 39 of their last 43 league games.

Not Europe, but realising at the weekend that Inter Miami is like some kind of Harlem Globetrotters side now. Messi, Suarez, Busquets, Jordi Alba - and then not a lot else at all, except maybe Federico Redondo, son of Fernando.

Some brilliantly American names in the squad. Drake Callender. Ryan Sailor. Lawson Sunderland.

Sutekh When/why did Athletic Bilbao stop being Athletic Bilbao?

Question about the name of the club/how to call it

Now I've always called you Athletic Bilbao in German and even though in Spanish I know people usually refer to it as just Athletic or Athletic Club, until earlier today I wasn't aware that fans of the club don't like the city's name added to it. I've read that on another post (I stumbled upon it on r/all via a Real Madrid post) and was curious as to if that's true and if yes: why?
Isn't it kind of the usual thing to add your city to a club's name? Is it a special case because Athletic Club doesn't officially have the city name in its registered club name?
Why is it in the logo then?

...

Well, the main reason is that it's not the name of the club. The official name is simply "Athletic Club". Also, under the Franco dictatorship, the club was forced to abandon its 'non-Spanish' name and was renamed to Atlético Bilbao. This was naturally very unpopular and calling it Athletic Bilbao or worse el Bilbao is seen as a reminder of Francoism. It is often done by opponents and rivals to wind up Athletic supporters. Personally, I think it's fine to say Athletic Bilbao especially when speaking to others who aren't as familiar with the club or Spanish football. People will often say Athletic de/from Bilbao since that's just a factual description. It's what I tend to do when speaking to those who might not know the club.

Athletic Club is their correct name.

The big one in Turkey finished 0-0. Mourinho managed to turn an apparent good ref performance into a moan about refs, then he said Galatasaray's bench were 'leaping around like monkeys'.

Galatasaray statement:
Since the commencement of his managerial duties in Turkey, Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has persistently issued derogatory statements directed towards the Turkish people. Today, his discourse has escalated beyond merely immoral comments into unequivocally inhumane rhetoric.

"We hereby formally declare our intention to initiate criminal proceedings concerning the racist statements made by Jose Mourinho, and shall accordingly submit official complaints to Uefa and Fifa
