I remember a Christmas away visit to Plymouth in 87. Gail force wind and horizontal rain blown into our faces for 90 minutes. We won 3-1. A repeat would be nice.

So the draw was just for the PL U21 team? Obviously we play West Ham at home, when is it decided which of Swindon and MK is the away match?

So the draw was just for the PL U21 team? Obviously we play West Ham at home, when is it decided which of Swindon and MK is the away match?

Last season Newport (4th tier) was the home game and Cheltenham (4th tier) was the away game. The season before Exeter (3rd tier) was away and Swindon (4th tier) was at home.

I reckon this season it’ll be a trip to Swindon and a visit from Franchise. Games start being played late Aug/early Sep so would expect the three clubs to work out who, when and where next month at some point.

Very bad trip however it was always a strong possibility. I know the EFL like to try and put Boxing Day matches in relatively close proximity and given how Northern the league is this year, realistically only ourselves, Cardiff or Wycombe were likely opponents (not including Exeter as they would never schedule a local derby on Boxing Day).

From a logistical point of view for the players it couldn't be much worse either. Presumably they will have Christmas Day morning off to spend with families, have a usual matchday -1 training session before travelling down Christmas Day afternoon before being in a hotel for the night?

Would suggest that Reading have been given the arse end of it on Boxing Day (quite possibly looks to be the worst game/most travel across all 3 FL divisions that day), Stevenage, Luton or Northampton would all have been more logical if the FL and/or plod won't let you have local derbies (i.e. Wycombe).

Not much more intelligent at Easter either with "local" games against Huddersfield and Lincoln , really should be getting away from the stupid idea of football fans not being trusted (except Millwall obvs.)

Yup, the squad will probably have to report for a light training session around 1pm and then head down to Devon around 3pm on Xmas Day. Not fun

If you're not going to schedule a ding dong Devon Derby on Boxing day someone has to travel down there (or they have to travel) and ourselves and Cardiff have the shortest of those trips (probably, I'm not going to check) so if we weren't going there another set of fans would have a longer trip

As an aside, I used to go up Prospect Park and play footie with the Cooper bros. Adie, Paul and Leigh. The reason I mention this, is that Leigh went on to play professionally for Plymouth. Always remember that famous game, at Elm Park, where we beat them 4-3, after being 3-0 down at half time. Unbelievable stuff in the pouring rain. Not sure if it was the following season, however the Argyle came up and beat us 1-0. I saw Leigh after the game and he said "We owed you that one", with a cheeky smile on his face. Great lad. Very humble.

With you here Traff regarding the weather, a cold dreary day as far as i remember! I was fairly young then 16 i think lol. 8500 in attendance so a decent turnout but cannot remember the crowd leaving early.
