Millsy Selles proving again he really is nothing special or at least we really can't tell because of other factors. Most likely file under forgettable crap like Pauno, Ince, Stam, Clement etc etc...

That's incredibly harsh. Given how he's brought this team together and the fan base during probably the worst period in this clubs history (at least in my lifetime).

It's not just harsh it's downright insulting actually.

What's insulting about calling him "nothing special" and then going on to say "we really can't tell" ?

In my opinion it is most likely that he is a forgettable manager. Not shite, just relatively meh.

I just don't follow the hype that because he's got some good results (in a lower league) and turned around his awful performance that therefore he is some sort of insanely amazing manager, second only to Coppell and McDermott as some have been laughably suggesting. I guarantee if we get a new owner, new investment and he gets a run of really crap results every single of one you will be saying he's shite and funnier still will pretend you knew all along.

BTW I really like the chap, we all do. NIce guy, not complaining, tough circumstances etc and obviously want him to be the next Coppell. I just think it's unlikely.

It might be wrong, but if it's "insulting" what can I say. But in this day and age people get insulted offended and triggered by all sorts of shit tbh so who knows.

Not going to reply to the other text as it's opinion based and you have yours, I have mine.

But in relation to your last point, i am not "triggered" and saying something is insulting, is not the same as offended. It's saying it's so incorrect to be actually disrespectful and deeply unfair.

Again, that is my view and you disagree, but I wanted to say this before you start posting stuff about it being woke or something.

Oh so now I'm just "disrespectful"? ;)

Fair enough buddy, seriously football especially is all about opinions dont' worry. I have a lot of them and only about 97% of them are wrong. :D

Walesonline supposedly reporting the Ruben is high on the Cardiff city wanted list.

According to James Earnshaw.

Why don't transfer windows apply to managers as well. Fine to sack a guy outside of a window but you'd only be able to appoint a replacement who is a free agent unless you wait for the next window to open.

Sky Bet League One Manager & Player of the Month: October nominees

Ruben Selles (Reading)
Selles has re-connected the Reading team and supporters, utilising academy players to fill gaps in a thin squad and mixing pragmatism with a fluid style to entertaining effect. Four wins came from six games which contained 21 goals

Will probably go to the Wycombe manager but good to see Ruben get recognised.

Orion1871 Agreed, Jimbo. Need a change, or League 2 is on the horizon. Dai needs to act during the international break so we can bring someone else in and sack them during the international break after this one.

I assume the above post was somewhat tongue in cheek but many on here wanted Selles sacked after the first 6 games of 2023/24.

No doubt if Hunt wins a few he will be lauded as our greatest ever manager. You fickle lot!!

andrew1957 Selles wouldn't have been my choice, but to be fair he has done better than I expected so far considering the hand he was dealt (I wasn't expecting much!).

He was appointed late, most of the players we brought in haven't been here 5 minutes and so there was no proper pre -season. We have seen one of the largest turn rounds of players at the end of a season I can ever recall and brought in largely unproven youngsters. Let alone all the financial issues and a points deduction. And he has had injuries to key players like Smith plus we seem to have been unlucky to play mainly in form teams so far.

Seriously folks anyone who expects us to be at the top end of the division by the end this season is deluded. If Selles can bring us to a solid mid table finish (say anywhere between 10-17th) then I would say he has had a good start and provided the owner keeps funding the club, we should have a great chance of going up next season, as the young players who "make it" this season will have a good season's experience behind them and hopefully we can fill any obvious gaps next summer.

I like seeing the young players develop and think we need to be super patient with them as they get experience. So far the defence have been good - only conceding 5 in 6 games and so our problems have been that we are not scoring enough goals - but the team are creating chances and so I do expect this to change as the season progresses.

Although I do say it myself my post from September 2023 was pretty accurate. The shame is we are now pretty much back to where we were 2 years ago with yet another new squad, having seen the young players like Bindon and Mbengue develop and then move on.

I would say on balance, on the money rather than pretty accurate. What do the runes say now? Oracle of future yet to come.
