traff I notice that Ahmed is not mentioned in the talk about centre backs.
Looks like a potential Mbengue replacement to me and I believe he thinks of himself as a centre back playing right back.
Maybe a little early but like to see him play there in one of the cup games.

Seems unlikely seeing as his play has been significantly weaker in defence compared to getting forward.

I wouldn’t play him there now certainly but at 17 there is a hell of a lot of development left to do. Could well end up there in a few years

Several years down the line, maybe... not something I'd really be looking at though, personally.

If we are signing him I would imagine it would happen during this international break for gelling reasons though I guess he is training with the squad anyway so no immediate rush

Can’t sign him until the free agent window opens again, which is usually about a week after a transfer window closes.

Could be an element of keeping him around whilst monitoring Paudie's recovery. If that goes well, maybe it'll be a no, any set backs and get him in.

Any idea what he's done? I'm guessing injuries are why he's been out of the game for so long and why we held out on giving him a contract.

That's awful. After a fairly lengthy period of fitness, pre-season with Pompey, and then looking head and shoulders above with us at 21 level. Really feel for the guy. BTW - do you know why Paudie is so far behind? Do you know how close he is?

I don't think Hunt has any idea how close Paudie is if I'm honest.

Gets injured in training the day before the first game.....Hunt says 50/50 for following week.

Misses that game - then its 2-3 weeks

Last week he's back "on the grass " which as I said on another thread Ben Elliott was in Jan and missed the remainder of the season

I can't see him returning this side of the next international break

Some injuries are just like that - have you never had a sports injury?

Can't tell you why, but for me, I consider anyone 'back on the grass' at least 2 weeks away, probably 2 - 4, assuming no set backs.

I take 'back on the grass' to mean joining in with training, rather than purely gym and recovery work. Probably starting with light work, avoiding the more competitive aspects. And I'd say you want someone to have been in full training for preferably about a week before you give them a sub appearance, let alone a start. Obviously each player and injury will progress differently, with different durations at the different stages, and some players just bounce back quickly.
