...not much NL action midweek :
- in SLP-S Basingstoke edged past Hanwell 3-2 and Farnham went down 3-4 at Havant (Ryan Seager with all 4 for the Hawks) in the re-arranged fixture ('Shirtgate' late October.) :?

Berks Co v Staines & Lammas CCL D1 Cup tie abandoned at HT at Ascot last night (Wed) - frozen (3/4G pitch)
Aldermaston's WESS-1 game vs Cove at Thatcham was called OFF early PM too

...the w/e temps 'locally' are forecast to be slightly up (Beeb currently says Sat is clear but cold) and it's been raining, so that might thaw a few more, assuming they are dry enough?

Royals and Racers Spartan South Midland Premier side Harlow Town have been place into administration.

...not a good sign - they resigned from the Southern League half-way through 22-23 and dropped into the Eastern Counties League - South (STEP06) for the following season.

- ‘port who are struggling badly this term were good value for their early lead but folded rather 2nd half - once W&E got going
- some quality movement from the hosts too – with plenty of games in hand, if they can stay fit they will be creditable challengers in this division.
- might need to tighten up the back four a touch for the better sides in this section.
- continued Vase run might distract them slightly – in the last 16 - Home v Fisher next w/e
- no major changes to the ground since my last visit Aug 24 – lights a bit ‘dim’ late PM?
- under the stand loos now refurbished - long awaited that – just need to do something about poor visibility through the side panels in the upper part of the seated area
- no draught ale in the clubhouse currently : food/hot drinks from a tea ‘table’ outside the bar and local ‘market’ grill doing burgers & hot-dogs (sausages not Franks)
-prog free with admission which is nice - chappy at the turnstile recognized my Royals ‘Apple wallet’ logo

Interestingly* (or probably not.)
Eyewitness in attendance, account
Private helicopter landed at Scours this afternoon with two well dressed gentlemen disgorged and heading to some kind of meeting in the boardroom.

Prime estate buyers?….nah it’s Scours

Suffered through the Eastleigh v Southport rearranged FA Trophy fixture last night, which Southport rightfully won 2-0. Fair play to the 14 away fans who made the journey twice in the space of 4 days. They were in good spirits.

On Saturday, having only found out about the postponement 400 metres from the ground (the Southport fans were rightly fuming...) we strolled straight past and paid £7 (children free) to watch a very entertaining and classy AFC Stoneham side put 9 (nine) goals past Downtown without reply in a Wessex Premier League game. Interestingly* the Downton goalie is ex-Stoneham (+ a load of other clubs across NL) and the highlight of his game was offering out a couple of 14 year old lads for inferring that he had a "noncy haircut".

...not much action survived the downpours again this midweek - though does seem to be drier currently, than was forecast at the start of the week so some better prospects for tomorrow perhaps??
-I didn't brave the big local derby at Binfield - didn't have a car - anyway.
Here's the (very) few highlights of those matches that did go ahead:
Tue:
NAT-S Slough were beaten 1-2 at bottom club Chipp’num
CCL-PN
Ab.U won 3-1 at home to the ‘Sumas’ – att 104 – U’s 2 up inside 10’ Richardson with a consolation pen for Wokingham early 2nd half but the 2 goal lead was soon restored.
Reading City nipped up the M4 to Arbour Pk and came away with 3 pts, besting the lodgers (VW) 1-0 – att only 49.
In Div One there were wins for Bedfont FC and Staines Lammas – Berks Co were held 0-0 by London Samurai @ Ascot – crowd of only 39. ‘Hoppers’ evidently not drawn to that by the prospect of play on the 3G either?

Wed:
IL1-SC Binfield 3-1 Ascot - att 123 a brace from Amari Fashanu
SL1-S Winch picked up a 2-1 win at Tavistock and move up to 3rd
- home side reduced to 10 men early 2nd half with City already one up

- got to this: decided to stay local rather than risk an earlier KO low-level County game, that might have been weather affected
- Town should have been ‘home and hosed’ in this, led at HT with a pen in added time.
- visitors were reduced to 10 2nd half for a 2nd pen award – which was blazed against the bar.

Four Of Clubs NL Results

Bracknell Town 4-2 Sholing

Bracknell were 0-2 on 85 minutes and still 1-2 down in the 93rd. Quite a late turnaround.

Strangest result of the day, albeit definitely not local, was Curzon Ashton v Telford in the National League North.

Both teams were boringly mid-table, with Curson Ashton two points above Telford. No sendings off or any clue what happened, but the final score was Curzon Ashton 0 Telford 8.

Fa sunday cup round of 16 today

My local-ish team, BN Dons, travelled to Salisbury to play a team from the Andover and District league, called Tidworth Town. TT won 3-1, so considering Dons absolutely destroyed the best team in Berkshire 6-1, TT must be a tidy team.

I read they have an international player from St Vincent or something

Also

HIGHGATE 1-4 East London Ballers :o :o :o :o :o

Didnt expect that to be such a mauling of the holders tbh

...report on NLM in the FA Sunday Cup thread - tie was switched to the 3G at Shaftesbury: 2 points to note.....

i) States TT brought in a few of their squad players, who regularly turn out at STEP06, for this tie - they have c. 40 odd registered

ii) 2 Red cards for BND might suggest they followed BAPCO's example from their meeting in that previous round and somewhat self-destructed!? :?

2) quite possible then as those sorts of teams who win alot (bapco and bnd) probably get a bit pissed off when they come up against good players and teams

I need to see what happened in that Highgate game

They never EVER EVER (and I mean ever) lose like that, let alone really even lose

Eastleigh 1 Aldershot 4. Low quality game but featuring 3 former RFC players for the Shots. Boyce-Clarke in goal, his handling was quite tidy. He didn’t have a great deal to do although he charged out of his area unnecessarily allowing Blair to equalise. James Henry was anonymous and was substituted. Josh Barrett had a very good game used the ball well and found space intelligently it’s a shame he’s in such poor physical shape as there’s a decent player there.
Eastleigh are really poor with very little quality other than Blair and Saunders up front.

NL Review

Midweek - Only a handful of games survived the wet – with Wed night seeing the worst of the downpours

Tuesday Woking progressed to the last 16 in the FA Trophy, beating ‘media luvvies’ Macc 2-1 @ Kingfield – now face a fairly daunting trip just across the M25 to SLP-S leaders Walton & Hersham.

NAT Eastleigh suffered a heavy defeat (1-4) away at Southend whilst Brackley battled hard for a point down at Truro – ‘Saints’ let a 2 goal lead slip but levelled in the last 15’ having gone behind.
- leaders York won 3-0 at 3rd placed Carlisle in front of over 7k. Rochale moved 2nd with a 1-0 win at Solihull and Boreham Wood now 3rd slipped up at home to Scunthorpe.

SLP-S Hungerford were thrashed 2-7 {SEVEN} at Bulpit by Farnham
SL1-C Marlow went down 0-4 at OTR v Flackwell crowd was 224

CCL-PN Windsor held at lowly Amersham, Ab Utd got an impressive 3-2 win away at form side Ashford.
Leaders Burnham were beaten 0-2 at an undoubtedly swampy North Greenford and VW shared points with Ardley at Slough
CCL-PS Eversley v Baggy Lea was abandoned after a flood light failure in the first 15’ & Thatcham also cut short - waterlogged mid-game at Redhill
- there were wins for Fleet , Tadley (who move inside the PO positions) and Sheerwater
CCL-1 Woodley drew a blank at home to Spartans in a game I was quite surprised went ahead, as conditions in RG1 definitely worsened late PM early eve?

Wednesday was a complete wash-out ‘locally’ even incl. Ascot at Southall (Hayes & Yeading) on 3G.
Other games postponed were Farnboro v Chelmsford, Guildford v Cor-Cas & Henley v Maidenhead Town in the TVL

...here’s this w/e schedule – the current Beeb forecasts suggests it is supposed to be fairly wet thru Friday but drying out round here from late AM so hopefully more local fixtures will proceed than of late?:

Sat 24th Jan 2026

FA Vase 4th Round - re-scheduled ties : 5th Round (last 16) ties due on the 7th Feb.
Windsor & Eton v Fisher Athletic
should they progress, W&E drawn away at Punjab United - SE Counties Premier side, play in the suburbs of Gravesend

Sun 25th 15:00
Gt Yarmouth v Haywards Heath

– winners host Wessex leaders AFC Stoneham

Other 5th Round ties to note :
- holders Whitstable host SSM side Cockfosters and in other ‘local’ (southern) interest Wessex Premier's Downton (S of Salisbury) will host Reading City’s conquerors Lymore Gdns
