Brogue
stealthpapes On fitness, perhaps a better word would be preparation and then it might follow that, having changed a manager, the new manager might have a different view of what players have the right preparation for the positions he wishes them to play in.

Related to that is recalling Hunt's quotes about running the squad hard in the pre-season. There's only so much of that you can do before it bites you in the arse.

In any case, fitness and matchday prep are both qualities that *are* hard to change mid-season. Particularly at this time of year when all the accumulated knocks and bumps start taking their toll. It's one of the many things about the current squad that will need time - and patience - to fix.

yeah not buying it one bit.

man u - fcuked from top to bottom, playing like tossers, tired, lethargic not bothered, no passion. Carrick comes in every single thing improves immediately.

Peterborough - luke williams comes in turns them from dead cert relegation team to chasing the play offs whilst playing decent entertaining football - i don't see him complaining about preparation and fitness

and if this is the case as you suggest why are the fitness team still here, the same fitness team that's been here for years. its just excuses. we are not conceding 70 crosses and 40 shot in two games at home because of fitness/ preparation what ever you want to call it. we are playing shit football because we are set up wrong, and that's on Richardson

from yesterday's Q&A with Leam

Matt Bramall has just come in from Brentford for S&C

Preseason plans being worked on after that

So, this has been identified as a problem and solutions - which can only be effectively put in place in pre-season - are being put in place.

Presuming it’s part of the reason we’ve been tending to take the “let’s defend what we’ve got” approach in some games.

Mat Bramhall is on LinkedIn and has an entry in transfermarkt if anyone wants to check him out

He was an Athletic Performance coach at Brentford and was the head of athletic development at West Ham’s academy and a sport scientist at Chester before that. Specialises with Stength & Conditioning and Performance Rehabilitation.

Wonder what he can do to improve things mid-season though?

It’s really hard to do much about fitness mid-season as you’re balancing that with players being fresh enough to play, the increased likelihood of in-game injuries, and the increased likelihood of fatigue injuries if you ramp fitness drills up.

From March onwards, clubs are actively managing fitness in terms of getting a squad through the last few games in one piece. The sort of S&C work that would raise fitness levels would be completely counter-productive.

Thought as much, at least he’s arrived in good time to get to know the club and players and should therefore be able to get good off season fitness plans together for each, not to mention getting his planning into the pre-season activities.

Looking forward to next season already :D
