British usage favours omitting the full stop only in abbreviations which include the first and last letters of a single word, such as Mr, Mrs, Ms, etc. All other abbreviations should have a full stop. No wonder they are languishing somewhere above Oxford Utd in the great scheme of things. Correct usage could dig them out of the hole they are in. Never mind investing millions in a Swedish has been.
