Can anyone see Norwich losing again though?

Our game at theirs might be the difference between them getting the record or not

100%...they will lose at least one more game this season. Absolute banker. You watch. Don't even worry about it.

They have 4 of the current top 7 in their last 5 games when they will likely have one foot on the beach. Can't see them winning all of those, assuming they win the rest in the meantime.

Looking back since 2006, i dont think anyone has come close have they?

The closest i can think of was Leicester in 2014, when they got 102. Just looked it up, their max points fell below 106 6 games before the end of the season, a game before we played them. Wolves got 103 in the same year but fell below the target with 7 games to go.

There was also Newcastle in 2010 but they hardly dropped a point in the run in so were down a long way out.

What we really need is a final game cliff hanger, a real twitcher. But ultimately the record survives.


Bit of perspective. If Norwich don't win out, it will be 15 years standing. That's 1080 attempts at the record from EFL clubs.

It will be broken one day, as records always are. It'll take an incredible team though; Leicester Newcastle and Wolves all fell short and they were excellent teams. And now Norwich can only equal it, and they need 8 straight wins for that.

Just realised Norwich can beat it, but it'll take perfection, especially as teams often drop off after promotion is confirmed, as we did a little in 05/06

Being pedantic, better for us to score an equaliser. If we were already drawing the record would be staying ours anyway.

Can we score two goals in added on time? We may need those extra two points to get us into the play-offs. It extends our season, even though going on past years doesn't gain us promotion.

A team winning lots of games is where the real threat lies.
The record was set by a small, unfashionable club with a bunch of players no one had heard of. Big clubs try every year to do better and none manage it.

The paradox with Newcastle is that they’ve got very few that have impressed that will get picked up by other, lower half, Premier League teams.

Means they’re clearly not that good but also may mean they get to keep a lot of them and that may help in the Championship.

Of course, they’re not yet down.
