It seems a bit pointless speculating about this or that manager until we know which division we will be in. If Hunt keeps us up by some miracle then why not give him a chance, And even if we win a couple of games and show fight but still go down again, why not give him a chance as he will know the U23s well and with a massive clear out of senior players in the summer we will need these young hungry players in League 1. So let’s just get behind Hunty and see how the next 5 games go.

If Karl Robinson is the favourite then yes, I'd much rather give it to Hunt.

If we stay up and we can attract someone like Nathan Jones, then yes I'd rather we got him instead.

A lot will depend on what we do in our next 5 games with Hunt.

Find it quite odd that people criticise Dai's appointments then come up with really naff suggestions. For example Cowley Bros, have a read of some of the supporters of Huddersfield or Portsmouth, or Nathan Jones at Stoke. Think we need look past the list of out of work managers, they are out of work for a reason. What we dont know is who will apply for it, could be someone under the radar. And please let it not be Parkinson, loved him as a player but his record as a manager is uninspiring to say the least apart from Wrexham which doesnt really count due to his budget.

Cowley yes, but Stoke have been through a lot of respected managers at championship level lately so not really like he has set up to succeed. Certainly would be ten times more sensible than other managers we’ve appointed.

Can't understand the love for Hunt on here when posters are against Murty and Parky.

Prior to joining us he was assistant twice to Richie Wellens but Wellens and he got sacked by 2 clubs with Hunt being caretaker at Swindon for about 3 weeks but they didn't keep him.
Running U23s and the pressure associated with running a first team are totally different.

I wish him well because if he does well it means we stay up but if we stay up I would prefer somebody as manager who is not a novice.

It's hard to say who would be a good candidate for the job because we don't know what division the club will be in next season. There's two really different scenarios which could happen. The kind of approach which would be needed if relegation is avoided is different to what would be needed if the job is more focussed on rebuilding in League One. The types of players to bring in, the type of matches the club will face, the budget available, the players who would stick around etc would all be different.

Pauno took us on a rollercaoster which should have ended in playoffs but Swift being injured for almost the entire season led to eventual failure right at the death.

I think i quite like chancing our arm with random former very succesful Champions League quality players learning the ropes of management.

Players I'd like as manager (even if they aren't managers). This is for fun.

I still don't really understand how we managed to swing Jaap Stam. The football was awful, but still he's one of the best defenders to play the game. He was by far the theoretically greatest manager Reading would ever have. If we could get him, why not pluck a random former international heavyweight player?

Also is Brendan Rodgers interested in a second bite at the cherry?

John O'Shea is actually not a bad shout in this context. Albeit I'd prefer Rio Ferdinand, or Vidic. Not that Ferdinand seems to smart when doing punditry. So cancel Ferdinand. What about Ashley Cole? Let's go crazy here. Has anyone asked Joe Cole what he's doing? Or Johnathan Woodgate?

Not against your idea but both the Coles are almost illiterate and theirs and Ferdinand's speaking voice would drive us and the players mad.
Woodgate had a brief spell at Bournemouth which didn't really work out and now is part of the Carrick team doing well at 'Boro.

Despite their pasts Lee Bowyer and Joey Barton have done quite well in difficult circumstances.

Everything depends upon results over the next 3 weeks and the "project" (don't you just hate the term?) will be different based on which division we are in.

I don't mind the John O'Shea link either, especially if he's looking for a foot in the door with management. Ashley Cole seems to have built up a good amount of coaching experience as well, he'd be someone that I wouldn't mind either if something like that was ever to materialise.

I'm not particularly bothered who we get as a manager, providing they fit with what we should be wanting as fans and as a club. I think it's almost universally agreed that we want to use our academy talent more frequently and play a better style of football than we've seen, all whilst looking for longevity in a manager. If we can get this, I don't care if they've managed in Abu Dhabi or have 20 years of experience in the Championship, I'd back it.

Yeah, not too focussed on anyone particular, as long as it's a sensible appointment, don't mind Hunt being considered either but he needs to prove it in these last 5 games because otherwise he doesn't have a great CV for a prospective manager, if he crawls us over the line at best, I would look to move him back to the U23s.
